I was heartbroken to see c-list fashion designer Isabel Toledo's inaugural suit for Michelle Obama. First of all, glitter at 11 AM is just wrong. It was a mother-of-the-bride outfit.... and the green gloves and shoes... just awful. And the coat had a white lining... that's cheap looking, not very refined. Not as bad as the election night Halloween dress... but c'mon American designers, show a little respect.

Good chance is might be very cold in January. Outdoor event. So you design a coat that doesn't close.
Evening gown even worse. The bedspread in Aunt Agatha's guestroom. Made Michelle look fat. Ten inaugural balls, dancing, and Barack is stepping on the too-long hemline. Is it so hard to design for a tall woman? |

I think she looked awful.
I did not watch most of yesterdays events, but that slime green outfit belongs back in the 50's where it came from and that ball dress looks like it was from a Junior Prom, all covered in Dingle-bery like cotton puffs. Oh, I am sorry, they were flowers. Why the hell can't the first lady look sexy? Why does every one of them have to dress like a frump? Will it be Pant-suits from now on? Agreed, she should not be dressed like a fashion model or arm-candy but come ON!!!! |

That suit was not yellow... it was yellow/green.... I'd call it "hepatitis-sea".
It's a color that does not sell, that no one wants. That's a suit you'd find on the rack, on sale, at the end of the season. Isabel Toledo has been on the fashion scene since the 1980's but has never really made it... she designed Anne Klien for like maybe a season and was let go. There's a reason for all that. The ball gown looked like a chenelle bedspread but at least it was white... a color that looks good on her. BUT Aretha Franklin's bow hat was xtra fabulous. Watch slim and cute 22 yr. old Aretha on Shindig in 1964. In total command. http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=dAueAE...eature=related -- |
