I went and hit two sets of Bridgstones yesterday(J40,J36), both with PX 6.0, felt great, ball flight was a little high on the J40 even when I trapped them, no real loss of distance since I hit blades from the early 90's, very accurate, 6 iron distance of 205 which is average for me, did not hold greens as well as I would have liked, still a great club. J36, was the winner of these two, more piercing ball flight, held greens much better, 208 6 iron average, so minimal gain(wind could have been a factor). I will be hitting some TM MCs this weekend as well as the Cobra S3 and Cally Razr X Forged. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for all of the recs. I am having fun hitting these things.

Good luck hunting make sure the cobra's are the pro's the regular s3 irons are game improment and I don't think that's what you want.

good luck with your testing, I must admit I tried the Cobra S3 the other day and it was over I want forged irons so bad haha they looked absolutely beautiful

I also tried some of the Nike VR pro forged irons they are worth looking at too

I cannot say enough good things about the Cobra S3 pros. They have been marked down and fall right into your price range.

By the way, your bag looks sick. I bet it's fun to hit.
Yeah, I love my blades, but I'm just not the player I used to be. I was carrying a 2 HC last year, it's up two full strokes, and I hate to admit I just can't do it anymore, but it's time.

Thanks, man! Looks like I'm going testing this weekend!
no problem man, you may get a good deal on the "current" TP line since Taylormade discontinued some of them, so they price probably dropped significantly. Good luck with your testing.

That what was referring to when I was talking about the TaylorMade CB or MC, I am just not sure how forgiving they may be.

Thanks for the Callaway rec, I will def give them a look. I didn't even think about them.
You bet. There is a thread here titled Callaway Razr X - All Lines. A couple of the Callaway staffers in the Morgan Cup played the Razr X Forged (Coolbreeze comes to mind, with KBS Tour S) and have added their thoughts in that thread. I chimed in a few times as well with my thoughts. I am currently gaming Razr X Forged with PX Flighted 6.0's (the stock offering), but will be switching to KBS Tour S in a few weeks. I came to the Razr X Forged from GI lines my whole golfing life (Cleveland TA6's and Adams a7's) and had no problem picking these irons up and hitting them well. I went to a demo day in St. Louis and picked up the Razr X Forged up, mainly because they looked good and I was curious. And from the word go, I was stroking these things. I was in love. I was hitting them so well, the rep came up and handed me the MB version after a while and said, "Your hitting those well. Why don't you give these a try". I told him, "It usually goes the other way. The reps are usually handing me a "safer" iron".

I do not have experience hitting all those but there is a great review thread on the J40 cb's. There were a few people who didn't feel comfortable in general with a smaller top line but they had no problems adjusting to the J40's.

Good luck in your search and hope you can try some out before you buy.

Not anti Titleist at all, I am just looking for a thin top line, and some ability to work the ball, with forgiveness. I know, I am not asking for much, right. I love Adams, great clubs.

I think the Wilson Staff FG Tour V2s should also be on your list.

ah I see, from what I saw the cb were as forgiving as the r11 irpns (in my experience I tested both side by side)

thanks man, I love my bag! I spent a long time going through tons of equipment and ended up with all this stuff, I guess I kind of like taylormade haha

Seesspoxy 09-21-2012 11:29 AM

Hit as many as you can first. I really liked the Razr X MB, and the Cleveland 588 CB, but I went with the Bridgestone DPC's. They are tough to find, but you should be able to hit them at a Bridgestone ball fitting day. The rep had both the CB and DPC. Actually both were very close in performance, but I wanted the added bit of forgiveness with the DPC's. Not to forget to mention that the price of some of the ebay sellers was impossible to beat.

Good luck in your search...

I will throw another vote at the Wilson FG tour V2. They are gorgeous irons and will provide what you are looking for, probably for cheaper than a lot of the others. Wilson is bringing it with their irons lately.

Whoa, that's a sick looking set of sticks!!!

The Nike pro combo CB set is really nice, so are the Cleveland 588 CB's.

there's no shame in having a 4.1 HC, hopefully the right irons for you will help you get back down again. Hopefully you can get fitted for your new irons to make sure they are always consistent.
