"Stableford" method. Accumultate points: 1 point boggie, 2 points for par, 3 points for birdie and so on. Handicaps are used and most points after 18 wins. Last couple of tournaments 39/41 points won. All competitors throw in $10 each or whatever. We have had 21 players first time and 29 players last time out so pot was decent.

with my "hacker" friends we are talking smack and betting maybe $1 or $2 per round ( yea I know high stakes) just for fun. When I play with my friends who are btter than I am I try to get a skins game going where I get one stroke a hole but one guy is reluctant to do so ( cheap!!! ) I explain to him my handicap would be around 30 his would be arund 10 so it is fair but he has issue with gving me a stroke a hole. I will keep trying

The person with the lowest score on the hole gets to remove a club from the opponents bag, he cannot use it for the rest of the round UNLESS he wins a hole and has the option to take back his club, or remove one from his opponents bag.
Gotcha, I knew I'd heard the rules before just couldn't remember.

The negotiations are part of the fun.

Our 8 some of friends meet once a month, and we all do the charity/corporate thing when they come up. We even run our little charity thing during July 4th week end, which is a family, and friends deal that has grown into something a little bigger. Competitive value in all these events is not as high on our lists as just having plain old fun. I am a member of couple of golf leagues in town, but rarely play in them any more. Too many sand baggers, and other cheaters are also involved in these leagues. Guys who I knew for sure who are pretty close to scratch players, but playing in 15 hndcp flights just to be playing make it kind of annoying. The Vegas Golf Association league is pretty bad for that.

My buddy and I played a $5.00 nassau for years off my 'cap. We had a blast, and at the end of the year if $30.00 bucks changed hands it was unusual. Unfortunately, he married a crazy woman, got divorced, and doesn't play as much so I play with my Wife and Daughter. On Saturdays we play closest to the pin on the 14th hole where we were members. It's a long downhill par three for me, 220 yards, and about 120 from the ladies tees so it's been pretty even. Winner picks where we go for dinner. It has been really fun and they win more often than not. My Daughter is a beast from that distance. I would get in the Saturday skins games, too, for $5.00 bucks.

I have tried to qualify for the WI state amateur a number of times, but qualified only once. Shot 158 over two days and missed the cut by a bunch, but it was fun. May try again this year for at least the mid-amateur. Tough to keep up with the big hitting young kids. Another year and I can play with the seniors.

Next year we are at a different club that has lots of events for men and I'm looking forward to that. They do something different out of a Shotgun start every Saturday morning, and I'll be in lots of those. I hope to play 36 holes almost every Saturday next summer. I need some competition because even though playing with my two females has been great, I was getting a little girled out on the course by the end of last year.

Basically, I like to play for a few bucks. Increases my interest and I play better when competing.

I never play for money. I play in scrambles from time to time, that's as competitive as it gets!

Years ago we had a "traveling trophy" that the winner of the round kept until someone else won. It was a talking golf ball on a chain that you clipped to the bag.

Almost every Saturday, I play with my Men's Club and we drop $10 each in the pot. We either pay out two places low net in two or three flights or play skins. We also pay $10 closest to the hole. Over a year, I think I am about even.
