Why can't we wear T-shirt and shorts when playing golf?

T-shirts and shorts will allow all golfers to move freely with their body. If Golf is a sport, then the player should wear the same outfit like any other sports. I don't think anyone can move their body freely with a Polo and a pair of pants, especially under humid condition.
At my course, they do allow T-shirts. I choose to wear a golf shirt because the material is more comfortable than a T-shirt. The new stuff wicks away moisture better, and doesn't stick to my body like a plain T-shirt does. I just make sure they fit me well.
If the course allows it, go nuts. My course allows just about anything, and I kinda like the laid back atmosphere.
I've played at places where they allow whatever. I've even played at some farm community courses where people took off their shirt. Call around, you'll find a place for you to play that lets you dress how you want. And like others, what's the deal with shorts? I've never played at a course that doesn't allow shorts, unless you mean jean shorts.

I want to get some nice, moisture wicking shirts similar to what Ben Hogan wore.
Ben Hogan wore better moisture wicking shirts than what they have today?
