Default Awkward lie shots
Move if wrong place

Ok imagine your ball landed in an awkward small divot or a narrow little valley, how do you play them as I always thin or fat them.
Thanks

If I'm in a divot I club down and make sure I swing very easy, that's if I have a shot at the green. If no shot at the green I take my normal swing and lay up. It does stink landing in a divot but it rarely happens to me, maybe once every 5 or mor rounds. Lucky I guess...

Anytime I am facing a shot that is out of the ordinary, I do a couple of things. First, club up and choke down a bit for maximum control. Second, I like to use an abbreviated backswing (again for control) and then really make sure I am hitting down and through the ball. I try not to think of it as swinging easy, as you still need to make an aggresive move at the ball so that you can get out of whatever situation you are in. Lastly, I will bend my knees a little extra so that I make sure I can get down and get the ball. The focus should be hitting the ball first and to not try and get too cute with the shot. Aim for the center of the green and/or away from any trouble, then look at making the next shot the one that gets close to the hole. There is nothing wrong with hitting 20 yards short of the green then trying to get up and down for par from there. The biggest thing mentally is to get out of the current situation and into a better one.

I agree with everything said above and would add, that I really focus on the back of the ball and nothing else, making sure that I make solid contact with the ball first.

Play it back in your stance and hit it hard. Play it back to insure you are hitting down, hit it hard no finesse or babying the ball. It will come out low and hot so take that into consideration.

I just usually take out my most trusty club - ye olde foot wedge. Not a divot exists that cannot be conquered by the foot wedge. haha

I did this thread because on the last round I had every 2nd shot was in awkward lies (not necessarily divots but one shot I had to get the ball from narrow little v valley, size of the ball in width and height club head length towards the green ) ended up 50 yards from me (not good on a par 5)
