I usually know the greens fairly well since I play a lot of the same courses, if its a long putt I'll read it. Otherwise I just go with it.

I usually just read from behind the ball. I only look from behind the hole if I really have no clue.

Jacqui reads the other side more often than I do, and she is pretty good at getting the read right most of the time. Speed is her downfall, but she makes a lot of long putts. She is also on a run of chipping in at the moment, and she will take a better look at those than most people I see as well. (Not from behind, but she does look from the ball side)

I will usually try to walk the long way around the flag to my ball and get a survey of the green while I'm heading to mark my ball. I'll read from both sides occasionally if the walk around doesn't leave me feeling comfortable with my putt!
+1 This is pretty much what I do too.

I like to start reading a green as soon as I'm walking towards it after my approach and I try to get most of it sorted out by the time I mark my ball so that my read when it's my turn is more or less just to confirm what I've already figured out (or at least what I THINK I've figured out anyway).

Nothing about putting.

I just wanted to say that I'm a huge Calvin & Hobbes fan!

That's it!

Behind the ball only for me, the only time i ever look at the line anywhere other than behind my putt is if im walking on the green and have a long walk to my ball lol, i think behind the ball is good enough and reading both sides and taking forever to read greens just slows down play IMO
