It's been rated PG-13 for Violence, language, horror images, slime and gore. This is terrible news. I imagine all gore that we've seen in past movies like this will not be here. No classic Predator skinning or aliens bursting out of chests. This is just bullshit. I'm so disapointed. I just can't imagine an Alien or Predator movie without that stuff. I doubt they'd be able to do much gore with a PG-13 rating. Bastards are only in it for the money. I can only hope for unrated uncut extended DVD now.

I'm actually not all that suprised to see that AvP is rated PG-13. It just means that the film company is going to make twice as much as it would have if they would have rated it R. But, they will lose a lot of die-hard Alien and Predator fans by doing this. This isn't that big of a suprise to me. Just corporate offices trying to make a buck.

A horror film should be violent. Off screen violence belong in Disney films, not in films about alien creatures trying to kill eachother.

Alien 3 without the autopsy or any of the gory scenes

Horror and violence belong to eachother. Take a look at any classic horror film, and you'll see some incredibly violent shit, especially if you travel a bit out of mainstream country. Take a look at some old Italian horror (The Beyond,, Cannibal Holocaust), Asian horror (Audition, Ichi The Killer, Guinea Pig... hell, even German horror Nekromantik, Schramm).

There are quite a number of good American horror films too, mostly from the seventies and eighties. Ilsa: She Wolf Of The SS is one example. It's more of an exploitation flick, but it's violent and bizarre enough to be categorized as a horror film. Also, Troma has a few gems, like The Toxic Avenger and Terror Firmer. The latter is more of a horror/comedy as it's fucking hilarious. But I'm sure some of the violent scenes will scare the mainstream audience, like the removal of a woman's fetus, cooking of a guys brain and the eating of a pickled penis. Still loads of fun.

Anyway, maybe they'll release an R-rated directors cut version next year. It'll still suck, though.
