Default Has Islam got the most number of followers in 2012?
I read that Islam (in a survey in 2008) has now overtaken the number of Roman Catholics in the world. What is the current figures of followers of Islam and Christianity? Does Christianity still have the largest number of followers (who "say" they are Christian)? Note Islam has the highest number of practising followers in the world.

Subhanallah! I love this sentence - I won't lie - sometimes I look at the wikipedia page on this or the pew report - but it can only be of academic interest. Imagine the Imaan of the Sahaba! When there was just 10 of them - then 20, and so on! No one else in the world believing in Prophet Muhammed sws's Prophethood - but they recognised the truth!
We all know we are undergoing massive trials and tribulations in the modern era - however Alhumdullilah maybe just 100 years ago only 1 in 10 people in the world were Muslim - that grew to 1 in 9, to 1 in 8, to 1 in 7, to 1 in 6(around when i was born), to 1 in 5(just a few years ago), and Inshallah within 20 years we will be 1 in 4.
I heard a great thing by Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad the other day - whenever you have doubts - remember that the history of this world is in good hands (Allah swt) - there is a divine Wisdom at work behind our trials - replenishing our Imaan and making us stronger.

Yep, especially Africa, non-Muslim people there are often very open to Islam and are looking for something to guide them.

If Latin America became Muslim... all those beaches would have to be closed down or a new dress code introduced!

How do "strict" Catholic/Christian women harmonise their faith with a typical bikini - the dress on a beach in Brazil? Or more generally do Christian women go that far in wearing swimsuits / bikinis in public? It looks like it although I've heard non-Muslims (including Christians probably) not comfortable with the normal swimwear have been wearing that Islamic swimsuit - the burkini / burqini!

In Rio they would have to knock down this famous statue:

They could segregate the beaches like in some Muslim countries.

The big statue belongs to the Christians, so long as there are still any unconverted Christians there it would be wrong to knock it down.

Salaams - I am currently writing historical tidbits for each day of the year - like a little thing which happened regarding Islam on that day - this is an excerpt

22nd September 1869
The French Ambassador noted in his letter "...the French booksellers Fauchon and Dupont used to sell every year in their shop in Rio de Janeiro almost 100 copies of the Koran. Although very expensive (36 to 50 French francs), the book was bought almost exclusively by slaves and ex-slaves, who had to make great sacrifices in order to acquire it. Some of them bought the book in instalments, and it took them one year to pay for it. As the Korans were written in Arabic, Fauchon and Dupont also imported Arabic grammars with explanations translated into French, as these slaves and ex-slaves wanted to learn the language in order to read and understand the holy book" - It must be noted that this meant that the people purchasing these books had retained and were developing an ability to read Arabic. Many of these people were originally slaves from Mali who had revolted several times against their masters such as in 1835.

People held onto their deen for some time in Brazil - who knows if there are still people with an unbroken chain going back to these former Slaves - unfortunately I fear this is not the case in many instances

It would be a true blessing spreading Islam to Latin America since I feel that they are the most mis informed. I come from a latin american background with mother being Peruvian and father being Salvadorean and I can tell you that they mostly get their view of Islam from the negative stereotypes of the media. I have orientated my mother`s side of the family towards Islam and it surprises me on how much ignorance they have towards the religion. The good thing is that they listen and are starting to see it more positively especially since they too don`t agree with the near nakedness and public affection they see in their country everyday.

Maybe people should write to the Muslim publishers and try to persuade them to translate more dawa books into Spanish.

Is there are Spanish language sattelite Islamic station yet? - that would help greatly InshaAllah.

Are you sure? They're not deobandi or brelwi so how could they be muslim? if this sectarianism continues, there'll soon be more dar ul-Ulooms than deobandis. You have to make up your mind. Either youre the only ones guided or the rest of the ummah's guided. you cant be the safe sect but then claim the numbers when theyre on your side somehow.
