Default [READ] Searching Islam - Website I made
Asalaamu Alaikum,

I wanted to share a very simple website I made recently (link at the bottom). It's basically a google powered search engine, the difference is, when you search for something, it filters out Anti-islamic/misleading websites.

People who are new to Islam or those with little knowledge would try searching for answers, only to be spammed by Islamophobic websites, some unfortunatly buy into this and are mislead. Even those who are knowledgeable, end up being fustrated by having to go through alot decieving sites.

For example, if you go on google and type "Taqiyya", you get this on the first page (jazakhallah to the brother who made this screenshot) -

As you can see it's bombarded by Anti-Islam websites, with the purpose to decieve the reader. However, if we do this same search on the filtered website (link at the bottom), we get this -

As you can see from above, the results are precise and they come from hand picked authentic Islamic websites. This way, you can find whatever you are looking for alot quicker.

There is also a scholar only results section tab, which shows results from Scholar based websites, like this -

I wanted to request two things from the brothers and sisters reading this;

a) That you could share the link with others you know.
b) That you could assist me in adding more Islamic websites to the search database.

In elaboration of b, I have added most of the main Islamic websites to the searches, there may have been some that I missed which I hope people can notify me of. The types of websites I'm looking to add are;

- Analytical websites (these websites are knowledge based and have alot of explanation of Islamic related material)
- Dedicated refute websites (websites that are dedicated to refuting Islamaphobes)
- Question and Answer websites (Involving answers given by Scholars)
- Websites that also refute deviant sects, such as Shia etc.

Blogs, forums etc. are also fine.

And that's basically it. This the website link, please save it -

www.searching-islam.com

Jazakhallakair for reading.

Good work. I suggest that you browse through this forum and find links that you could add. There are comprehensive lists of Islamic websites on the forum - just do a search. Also, are you only focussing on English or other languages also?

Asalaamu Alaikum,

Jazakallahkair for the advice, i'll do that. Regarding non-English sites, probably best not to mix it, unless the sites have english translations aswell.

Masha'Allah, good work brother Perseveranze. May Allah reward you and your family for your effort toward the deen. Ameen.

Looks like you've done a pretty good job, all the reputable Islamic sites I could think of off the top of my head are showing up in your search.

This is a good idea to combat Islamophobes.

At the same time, I have been thinking about doing something and you made me think even more about it, that we can use SEO (search engine optimization) to outrank the islamophobic sites on the actual google.com. You seem to be familiar with making websites obviously, but not sure if you are familiar with ranking for the terms which you want to rank for (I'm no expert in it but I work with a little bit, I'm sure there are many others on this forum who can help now that it is being brought up). Basically we can pick a search term, such as "Taqiyya" as in your example, and pick 10 legitimate Islamic websites (or make our own if there aren't ten), and work towards them to rank them for the term "Taqiyya".

Insha'Allah, the eventual result of that (could be days, weeks, months, never any guarantees with this stuff) would be that all the liar's websites would get kicked off the top 10 (first page) results of google for that term and legitimate Islamic sites would climb up there instead. My guess would be that it would happen sooner than later if we worked at it because Islamic terms are not usually like those fiercely competitive business terms such as "buy ____ whatever product" which everyone in that business wants to rank for. I don't think the majority of the Islamic sites are intentionally trying to rank for certain terms, they just show up there due to their authority and people talking about them and linking to them on forums, etc. The anti-islam sites are probably actively trying to rank for these terms of course because we know no Muslims would link to them like that, however they would Insha'Allah be easy to kick off the first page.

We could slowly but surely do this for any and every term which we know is being taken advantage of by the enemies of Islam to spread lies about Islam.

This (SEO) is a very, very common practice amongst website owners and internet business owners today. For example, if I am selling "black shirts", and I want my site to be on the top of google when anyone searches for "buy black shirts", etc, I can take certain steps to try to make sure that my website shows up for that search term in the top results. So my point is to apply the same principles to our Islamic search terms and Insha'Allah make legitimate information more readily available for all and hinder all the enemies' sites by causing a drop in their traffic and thus causing a significant dent in their schemes against Islam.

What do you guys think?

I agree with brother Shuayb Abdul-Khaaliq,We need to do so, if you know how, or any other bro here, Please explain how so we can all try to do SEo of islamic sites.
For example when you google jihad you find jihadwatch while you actually need something like aboutjihad.

Asalaamu Alaikum,

A more knowledgable brother can correct me if I am wrong, but I think SEO can only be improved from the websites end. Meaning, the website itself can implement SEO measures to rank their site, I personally can't rank their site using SEO. (If I can, please let me know).

There are a few things the search website can do though;

- With more searches showing up only Islamic websites, allowing them to be clicked more often, it helps their page rank and increases their rank on the overall Google search.

- I can add "100 index search" websites. This is what Indexing is -

Googlebot processes each of the pages it crawls in order to compile a massive index of all the words it sees and their location on each page. In addition, we process information included in key content tags and attributes, such as Title tags and ALT attributes. Googlebot can process many, but not all, content types. For example, we cannot process the content of some rich media files or dynamic pages.

I can add only 100 sites, which Google will index in relation to the search and help improve their page rank. I'll try and fill those 100 in whenever I can, i'll add the most contentful/quality sites I can find.

Anything else I can do, just let me know.

Asalaamu Alaikum,

Updated the website.

Now, when you search something, you will have results from authentic islamic websites, but seperatly, you can also see results from only Scholar based websites. Inshallah this will be useful to people.

As always, please suggest any scholar based sites that I may add. I think I have most of the main one's, but I'm sure I might be missing some. So please refer websites so I can add them.

Jazakallahkair.

Here's the example to show you the scholar results -

Asalaamu Alaikum,

Updated the website.

- Improved the search results (especially for Scholar)
- Added a video/lecture search (Islamic videos/lectures only).
- Changed the look so it's easier for people to use.

Here's how it is -

If you have any suggestions or anything, please let me know.

Jazakallahkair.
