Default Sajda on Ground
Quite a few pakistani cricket players have been seen performing sajda on the ground. Is it fine ?

What if a player is not in the state of wudhu and doesn't know the qibla ? just saw Umar Akmal doing sajdah.

Assalamu alaykum

May be we have to ask Br. Saeed Anwar. What is the intention behind doing that sajdah.

It the times of Rasoolullah i have heard the mosques didn't have proper flooring, they did Sajda on the sand. So that might not be an issue perhaps.

I think one have to have wudu even for Sajda of Shukr. Can someone please confirm.

Allahu Alam.

Doing the sajda on ground is not an issue as you said people have been praying on sand.
Wudhu and Qibla are two things to be discussed and the third one added by Sharif Bhai is Niyaah.

never saw saeed anwar doing it but the first player i saw doing it was inzamam, then salman butt, mohammad yousuf(after publicly coming out as muslim) and now the younger players are following the trend. it has also caused controversy in pakistan media where they accused the players of being over religious, wearing religion on their sleeves etc...

What's the issue with making sajda on ground?
For some scholars, to pray on carpets is even held to be makruh, figure out!

Absolutely no problems in making sujud directly on the floor, provided obviously no impurities are present on it.

Sometimes when praying and I'm very upset, I go into tears. Because I want to concentrate on my prayer, I try not cry and just concentrate. However, I find solace in giving sajda after the prayer and crying my heart out and asking for Allah swt mercy.

Is this biddah?

Your special connection with Allah(SWT) is enviable. Ignore the whispering about bidah.

It is makruk, if u do it in masjid after the salah for it may create an impreesion of an act of salah.

jazakallah khair for the replies

What is mukruk? Disliked?

I hardly pray in Masjid, when I do, for some reason I do not have the same connection to Allah swt as I do in the comfort of my own home?

What about the muslim football players wearing shorts above their knees who do sajda on the ground after they have scored a goal?

It's already a sin to remain with the 'awra/satr exposed, to begin with; sajdah or not sajdah!

The Maalikiyyah have said that the thigh is considered part of the 'minor `awrah' (as opposed to the 'major `awrah') hence making it makruh - not haraam - if it is shown publicly.

We should maintain husn adh-dhann (good thoughts/opinion) for our brothers and consider the possibility that they are following this accepted opinion in Islam.
