My friend is studying medicine and smokes. They smoked outside the university entrance and walking near the local hospital. they didnt get told off or caught by anyone. But they are worried they might get in trouble. They have promised to never touch a cigarette again. please make dua that nothing comes of this.

Rasulullah mentioned that the sin that which troubles the heart. Their troubled hearts are their reminder that they should desist from reprehensible acts. Many times, Allah's mercy envelopes a sinner and hides the sinner from being exposed to the public. This nothing but sheer love of Allah to give the servant yet another chance to find the right path and repent from anything that is disliked by Allah.

Tell your friends to hold fast to Allah's path and remain chaste, clean and free from any minor and major sins and abstain from all that is doubtful. Seek Allah's counsel by beseeching His Taubah and Mercy. That is required much more than du'as from us. May Allah keep your friends steadfast on guidance. Ameen

Tell your friends to go inside of the hospital and see the fate of the patients who smoked, copd. Cigarettes are the most dangerous product on the shelf, good thing they are going to abstain from smoking.

The problem with medical students who smoke is that they already know ALL the deadly side effects of smoking and they still smoke. So one won't be able to persuade them using scare tactics. The person should realize from within, only then it will work.
