It is difference in different state. In Saudi and Yemen, woman need the mahram's permission to work and it is difficult to get a government positions. In Qatar, UAE and Bahrin woman do not need permission to work and it is common for women there to work in government. It is not deal to the Shar'ia laws but to the tradition and culture.

![]() First of all do not take my opinion as authentic, I'm still a student and I make mistake but since this is a forum I hope I can contribute a bit to this important issue. Often topics like these are used as arguments by anti-Islamic elements in society to describe Islam as an unjust system regarding to gender. Jokes with issues like this are certainly not appropriate. What I've understood is that man (male and female) is a vicegerent (Khaalifa) of Allah ![]() While they both share all the Divine attributes, some attributes are more manifested in the male and other attributes are more manifested in the female. Generally the female is seen as the representative of Mercy (tasbih) and the male is seen as the representative of Justice (tanzih). To be a head of state, in a world with a lot of injustice and evil, strict justice is needed. The head of state makes in the end decisions on if and when go to war and how. In this case Justice is needed instead of Mercy. A woman will hesitate out of Love, Compassion and Mercy whether to send her son to war. Enemies of Islam will use this particular situation for their own benefit. This does not mean that a male is better than a female or vice versa. But both male and female have their own place in the Cosmos. In the case of a government position, I think women are allowed and needed to create a balance of Justice and Mercy as a representative of Mercy. Allahualam |
