So you are looking for a spouse and you need to create your profile document (advertising yourself) to pass on to friends and family whom you think can help find you a nice husband/wife.

I would like to know the name the document you are required to create which is sometimes accompanied by your photos.

• What do you call it?
• What do you think the appropriate name for it is?
• What do you hear most of the time for what it is called?

There will be other replies to this thread, please do not be swayed or influenced by the responses in anyway. I would like an unbiased answer of what 'YOU' think it is most commonly called or known as.

In our mutaharrik desi culture its called "biodata".


Its near impossible to escape it if that's what you're trying to do. The best you can do is get advices from seasoned brothers. Maybe the bros section would be a more suitable place to discuss such, uhh, sensitive topics. Some bros have reached very high levels and have inkeyshaaf of some deep secrets pertaining to this line. Thank you for taking your time out in replying to my thread. Infact this was a serious thread and i was looking forward to serious answers.

Let me correct you, they dont just 'make a portfolio to distribute', brief and basic information is written down onto a piece of paper which is kept by the parents/uncles/aunties. If they find a suitable spouse they exchange that information on behalf of their son/daughter/niece/nephew.

It's a process typically used in arranged marriages.

In our Indian culture, it is most commonly called a biodata or a CV. It is usually accompanied by a single photo. It includes basic details about the person and his or her family and expectations from the spouse if any.
