I like a lot of guitarists but these 3 come to mind right away;

David Gilmour
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Tommy Emanuel

I picked Zappa soley based on his recording 'shut up and play your guitar'. Spectacular...he also copies different styles like hendrix, santana, and can sound just like them, then shreds his own licks to show how'd he'd do it. Malsteem is good, but...

so I will throw out some names not listed yet

Carlos Santana
Mick Ronson
Jeff Beck

probably one of those who is not appreciated until seen live was Terry Kath of Chicago

Aaah Tommy Emmanuel...a great Aussie guitarist.....

My favcourite Aussie guitarist would have to be Phil Manning, followed closely by the legendary Billy Thorpe, then Kevin Borich

1. Jimi Hendrix - Everybody else is a footnote, and he wrote and sang incredibly too

2. Eddie Van Halen - His riffs single-handedly saved rock shredding in the late seventies

3. Jimmy Page - Incredible riffs, but he ain't Jimi and Eddie was too fast.

But I'm kinda biased to the innovators. there are undoubtably better players, but they're still riding these guys' coattails.

Come on, really? Yeah, he's the best guitarist ever. But his singing is horrible imo!

wow, tough question, very loaded.

I don't like hendrix, but I respect him.

Best rock guitarist ever?

Randy Rhodes.

Horrible live singer 'cause he was trashed at every concert, but who could sing his songs like he could? But "incredible" might be a little a little much lol
