Rex Ryan's a foot man

Tormented Rex bares 'sole' over kinky feet vids
Pleads to keep it 'a personal matter'

Pained Jets coach Rex Ryan yesterday faced his toughest opponent yet -- his own personal life -- when he was blitzed with questions about a Web profile that graphically details the sexual fantasies of the coach and his wife and their apparent foot-fetish videos.

The tough-talking team leader, who is usually quick with the quips and lives for fourth-and-one, merely punted when barraged with the inquiries.

"Obviously, I knew these questions were coming," a somber Ryan told reporters after struggling for a few seconds to get the words out. "But this is a personal matter and I'm not going to discuss it."

The chagrined coach could not have looked more anguished if he had been sacked by Julius Peppers, the crafty defensive end his linemen will face this weekend when they play the hard-hitting Chicago Bears.

Ryan repeated the words "personal matter" five more times before mercifully moving on to questions about player injuries and playoff possibilities.

In those uncomfortable moments, Ryan clenched his teeth and hung his head -- though he did perk up when asked directly about his wife, Michelle, his college sweetheart.

"My wife's beautiful," Ryan said. "We've been married for 23 years. She's awesome."

Ryan's awkward exchange came As he and his wife were linked to several foot-fetish dating sites with personal profile information very similar to that of the coach's wife.

Like Michelle, the online profiles describe a short, well-educated, married homemaker who is a Virgo and lives in Ellicott City, Md. That is the town where Ryan lived with his family when he was a defensive coach with the Baltimore Ravens before taking the top spot with the Jets.

The "ihaveprettyfeet" profile also shows up on a swingers site and on a raunchy Internet portal called Alt.com where the member and her partner express their interest in threesomes and sexual "torture."

Leave the man alone already. Sure, he now knows what most of us do already, namely that nothing you place online is truly safe/secret, but he's not hurting anyone.

Ryan's pretty much despised throughout the NFL here in the States, Oplo. Two weeks ago, one of his assistants tripped an opposing player returning a kick - given that all the coaches had formed a sideline "wall", there was a lot of speculation that the move was just one more trick in Ryan's book. Ryan's also incredibly foul mouthed in press conferences, and disliked by most other coaches, as well as a large portion of the press. So something like this is a feeding frenzy for sports media.

Okay, so the guy is loathed. Gotcha. I'm still wondering if using a person's private life is the way to take him down a notch or two. On the other hand, I can only admit to hoping that stuff like this leaks out about certain politicians over here, so... :maybeangel:

My feeling with stuff like this is if you are putting it up publicly on sites like YouTube for years, you really have no right whatsoever to complain about invasion of privacy when someone figures out it is you. This is a lot different from someone hacking into your computer, or stealing personal video from your home. This is putting it out there to the public, to solicit other people to join you, as well as to arouse others, and probably to satisfy some personal exhibitionist thing.

There's a real simple way to avoid a situation like this - don't film yourself in this position and then post it on public web sites. Or if you do, be prepared to face and address the consequences when you are busted.

I wonder if Sarah Ferguson is now a Jets fan?

Nptxsews 12-23-2010 03:39 PM

I have the complete opposite impression of Ryan, Moose, that he's fairly beloved in most parts for his outsized personality and profanity.

I don't see this story much hurting him at all.

Maybe I've been reading too many Philly and NY newspapers then, Salmon, and have a misguided sense on his popularity (or lack thereof). The NY papers have been all over him since the Pats/Dolphins losses, and then the tripping episode. And they are lambasting him today on this.

And Philly papers - well, we just hate anyone not from Philly for any reason we can invent (except, of course, if you were Cliff Lee). And there's a lot of dislike for Rex here among sportswriters for some reason, which is a little odd, given his dad.

Uvgsgssu 12-23-2010 05:01 PM

I kinda like Ryan. He's interesting. Hard Knocks, which follows a team during training camp each season, followed them this past summer, and it was BY FAR the most interesting year yet of the series.

Uvgsgssu 12-23-2010 05:12 PM

By the way, one of the headlines for week 16 predictions says "Rex Ryan Hoping to Put His Best Foot Forward"

Dertrioz 12-23-2010 05:46 PM

they can like feet and threesomes. All is cool between consenting married adults barring children or animals. It is funny though that this will stick with him for awhile. I will enjoy WFAN sports radio in NYC for the rest of the year for sure...

pitoufsd 12-23-2010 05:48 PM

Why is TAT turning more and more tabloid-ish? A football coach's foot fetish gets its own thread instead of being dumped in Other Sports Random Random?

This guy from the NY Daily News really sums up Ryan's problem well, Salmon.

If this is only about some home movies, then it is a personal matter, absolutely, it's Rex Ryan's business and his wife's business and nobody else's and please leave me out of it. But that is only if you think the videos posted themselves.

So now we have one more thing with Rex Ryan's Jets. We have one more issue in what feels like a non-stop cycle of them, only now the issue is the coach. Not Braylon Edwards. Not Sal Alosi sticking his knee out. Not a sideline wall of coaches and not the way everybody incuding the special teams coach ran their mouths in "Hard Knocks." Not the play-calling of the offensive coordinator or the erratic way Mark Sanchez occasionally runs those plays.

Long before "Excuse me, ma'am, can I help you with anything?" turned the Jets into the equivalent of a Saturday Night Live skit, there was the sense around pro football and around sports that the students had taken over the principal's office down there at the amazing Jets training facility in Florham Park, N.J. It is why Jets players like Bart Scott aren't allowed to sarcastically ask writers, "Oh, you want to talk about football?"
