Timing issues

so.
(hi Mavis. Don't envy you right now)

What will come of this?

we0MA4MI 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Any word on what caused the issue with the timing?

Is timing started and stopped by a human? Or started by a human and stopped by a light? Or started by voice sensor and stopped by the box?

HornyMolly 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Always a problem when someone else is pressing the button.

But time still on clock, light on, hit awarded, Germans hit.

beenBinybelia 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

started by human who is not the ref.
stopped by the lights on the box.

there are a few issues right now.
The most valid appeal the Korean coach has is the addition of the extra second by the ref.
The most valid point the Germans have is that it WAS awarded and that, regardless of human ear-hand coordination, the machine is right.

Agreed. Give it to the German, then seriously think about changing how the clock is started. For all three weapons.

tsamprasxx 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Did I imagine the clock read zero briefly and was then reset to 1 second? That would explain why 3 actions could occur in 1 second.

Started by human listening to President, stopped by the Hit.

Yes but the 1 second was there after the hit, then went to 0 after when the fencers were going back on guard. Dodgy!

But heh the 1 second was put back on and the German won.

The right decision was eventually reached struth!!!

saturninus.ribb 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Q: How's the Korean going to fence in the next match?

A: Well within time.

Fsfkkkjz 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

correct decision.

sadly her coach has let Shin down - no matter what, he HAS to help her regroup.

So true. Somebody get her off the piste and get her focused on the upcoming Bronze match.

forextradinginfo 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

though obviously now the info has been given that he is writing a formal appeal and she hasn't left the piste therefore hasn't accepted it...

buchmausar 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

So, um, she gonna sit there all night? Or will she leave once the appeal has been written?

If she leaves the piste the matter is over with, and they have actively agreed with the decision. The coach will have told her Not to move till he attempts to get things changed.

joanbertis 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

I know that, but she could ostensibly really mess things up if she refuses to leave and her coach brings her food for the next few days...

swwatch 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Someone just needs to grow a pair and say look the starting of the timer is an issue everyone fences under; the time was there the hit was scored, then awarded twice (once by the president then by committee), it's finished.

SnareeWer 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

she has to fight again either way.

would take amazing courage to win either match.

same goes for Heidemann

Goodwin 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Or the crowd could start shouting Off Off Off, till the hint is taken http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/redface.png

lionsiy 09-01-2012 05:41 AM

Two options

- allow her to keep an active appeal, and move her to another piste. Start the other semi-.

- move the next semi- to one of the other 4 pistes, while she legitimately keeps the appeal active.

Appealing errors must be legitimate behaviour for a fencer.

Appealing time-keeping errors must surely be a valid appeal.

Appealing for things that are not addressed in the rules because they are so rare has to be a legitimate behaviour for a fencer.

(I'm not saying the appeal should necessarily succeed - but she should have the right to appeal a clear system error.)
