Default I feel so bad for my dog Blue, tired of Miami's Pitbull ban.
Hello everyone I reside in Miami now where Pitbulls are illegal and banned. Fortunately on August 14th we will have a chance to vote to repeal the Pit Bull ban. But until then I have to deal with allot of stress. Today for example, I was walking my dog late at night in my neighborhood and a ignorant yelled and told her husband "Grab the dog hard that guy has a Pitbull". Then she tells me sir dont bring that dog near my house I dont like him. The lady doesn't even know my dog and his temperament. I find it very offensive for her to tell me this. Mind you my boy Blue just turned 1 on May 28th, 2012 and she had a Very big Husky. Her dog looked like he was getting worked up when he saw my dog. She made a big scandal about the whole situation. I am currently promoting the public vote to repeal the Pitie ban in Miami every where I go by passing out flyer's. Hopefully this will all end soon. Then I could walk my dog in peace without fearing that a ignorant next door neighbor could possibly call the cops on me. I am writing this to kinda vent of.LOL....Have a good night everyone.

You have a pit bull even though they're currently banned where you live?

I hope that ban lifts. I won't say anything about you having an illegal dog.. because what is done, is done.

Ignorant people calling the cops on you?

Your the ignorant one. You're letting your dog risk death everyday that you have him...it really doesn't get more irresponsible than that. If they don't lift the ban you can thank yourself and others like you for that.

Aside from the fact that you have a dog that is illegal where you live. Even if the ban is lifted, it's not going to change some peoples mind about your dog.

A couple days ago, I took Frankie, who MIGHT have a LITTLE Pit in her, out for a walk and our neighbor had their dog outside. She wouldn't let Frankie get close to her dog, because she is SOOO big.
Frankie is tall (23" or so) and about 65lbs, their dog is tiny, so I can kinda understand that. But Frankie is SUPER good with small dogs. She'll lay down when she meets them. But the neighbor wouldn't let her get close enough to see that. She got all worried and took her dog in the house.

Good GOD! You have a one year old Pit Bull in an area that has banned them for years?

Didn't you know they were banned when you GOT him? (I don't CARE if "oh, they never enforce the law".)

WHO sold/gave you that dog? They are as guilty as you are.

Please, protect your dog and get him to a safe place out of the banned area.

I hope the voters do overturn the ban, but I don't have much faith in the general public's common sense. I do think having a banned breed is a bad idea for the dog and the owner, especially if someone decides to make enough of a stink about it that Animal Control or the police show up and confiscate. Any chance you could move out of the area and to a place where there is no ban if the vote goes badly?

I am from Utah and moved to Miami to be close to my daughter. I wasnt going to just get rid of my pup Blue because of some stupid ban. By the way every one in Miami gots a Pitie. If yoiu go to the dog park yoiu see lots of them. I never take him to dog parks though. I just walk him late at night in my neighborhood. I live in the farmlands and yoiu barely see some one outside after 11:00 pm. I believe theres over 50,000 pits in miami right now if Im not mistaking. Apperently you are not from Miami and yoiu dont know how it is out here. I have had cops pet my dog and tell me how cute he is here in Miami. Now a days they are more linient with Pits than they were a couple of years back. I have even seen cops with Pits out here. This is why i strongly believe that the ban is going to get repealed.

Well I really hope they vote to remove the ban. Just keep educating people like you've been doing and hopefully they won't take your dog and kill him in the mean time.

OK, so everyone has a pittie, and everyone is super lenient with pits, but you're living in fear that your neighbors will report you and your dog will be seized? Is that about right? Which is it?

An unjust law is no law at all. That's the way I feel, but not the rest of society. I hope everything works out for you, just keep doing what you're doing. I'm not familiar with Miami but is there a way you can move out of the county if the law is not repealed? Or is the county to large for that to be a feasible idea.

And on a side note, there is hope for uneducated people. When my husband and I first acquired our puppy my parents were horrified. They kicked me out of Easter lunch, which was the first time in my 23 years. Mind you I am 23, married, have a 3 year old child with my husband and own my own apartment home, and my parents were threatening me with the old “we will no longer co-sign on your law school loan”. Long story short, after 3 months they invited myself, husband, daughter and DOG to dinner tonight. Then they were feeding him pieces of chicken breast for doing tricks for them. There is hope out there. You CAN change peoples' minds. Look at my story. My parents went from “that dog will eat our grandchild!” to “here boy, have a treat, sit, shake, speak”.
I'll keep Miami in my prayers my friend.
And if you're interested "An unjust law is no law at all" was written by Augustine of Hippo in On Free Choice Of The Will, Book 1, § 5.
Too much information? lol

life gets in the way of a lot of plans,
we have the same situation here in England, lately though i think the police are looking at who is holding the leash. which is a step in the right direction.
i really hope that the ban in Miami is repealed and you get it sorted.

There's always that chance of having your dog confiscated by animal control. Even though allot of people haves pits. But it isn't as bad as it seems having a Pitt in Miami. I just have that paranoia of something lhappening to my dog. Imagine that lady with the husky would of called the cops on me.

You can't blame someone for thinking it idiotic to knowingly get a banned breed of dog. Sure, sometimes the cops and ACO's will kindly look the other way, but sometimes they won't. If a person wanted to make it an issue and push it the cops and ACO's would have no choice but to enforce the law and that equals death for a dog. You have to admit deliberately bringing a dog into your home knowing the breed is banned and that a neighbor or someone else with a grudge or a fear of the breed could have the dog picked up and euthanized is an irresponsible act.

We all make stupid mistakes sometimes. Nobody is a perfect owner who never messes up. Hopefully OP can find a good solution to this problem and keep the dog safe in the mean time.

Oh I agree with you on this. I don't think any of us are perfect by far. But a normal, RESPONSIBLE adult isn't going to purposely put themselves, and their dog at a disadvantage. And let's say a normal, responsible person does put their dog at a disadvantage...do you think it's wise for them to be getting all bent at the people who ARE following the law?

Let's just be clear, I'm not in favor of the ban. I hope in August it goes away. But right now-that's the way it is. It's just crazy to me that someone would put someone(dog) they love in this position day after day, then go bringing the dog out in public, and THEN get pissed when people are afraid/opposed to this dog being there. I don't care that the law isn't always enforced...not always means sometimes. And "sometime" could be your dog. Screw taking that risk.
