Default Facial Markings?
I've been looking for a sticky on this but haven't found it. Is there any good website out there that gives names for markings on a dogs face? Or is it just the same as horses (blaze, stripe, snip)? I would love to know the proper terms to describe my dog, if they exist. I'll attach pictures of our dog, maybe someone can answer this question for me.

Thanks

no one really puts a name to their dogs white markings. but id assume that if you did, itd be the same basic thing as horse terms.

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure. I'm a first time APBT owner, or whatever he is.

actually...yeah, there are terms for dog's markings, they're pretty simplistic though. I white dog with colored patches of any size is a piebald. The dog pictured is further classified as an Irish piebald. Irish piebalds are predominantly colored, with white on the feet/legs, chest/belly, neck/face, and sometimes tail.

Yeah you can use horse terms.. I say that all of mine have "white blazes".

But, here's a link to AKC's site for Amstaff markings, just to show you the ones they have written: American Kennel Club - Breed Colors and Markings

Close, but not quite. The dog IS Irish white marked, but it is NOT piebald. Piebald specifically means PATCHES of white, not things like white paws/chest/blazes/tail tips (which is what Irish white markings consist of).

I've always read it as applies to dogs as "Irish piebald". That's the only way I've ever seen it presented.

Interesting. I've never seen "Irish piebald" in reference to dogs. Where have you seen it represented as such? Even a Google search for "Irish piebald" only brings up horses.

Zoey has very unique markings for me and I've always just refereed to it as her, one brindle colored patch over her left eye, brindle colored ears, and ticking throughout her overall white coat haha.
