Okay so my favorite Pet store in my area is Petsmart in Bossier City. Today while i went to get snow some more Whitening Shampoo, I decided to go to the one in Shreveport; off Youree DR just to see what it was like. I wont be going back. There was spilled dog food all over the floor of one of the isles and treats spilled down another. The staff was friendly but the store was a dog fight waiting to happen. I was in and out. And I wont be going back. I was very disappointed because I love Petsmart and had heard some good things about the store. I love my home store better! The staff is friendly and the floors are clean!
Oh yeah; this also got my attention. One of the employees that asked to pet snow was all 'is she okay?' and I asked her what she meant. She went on to asked if she was deaf or blind. I blinked and said no, that she had minor hip problems. She went 'oh yeah hip problems are common in white dogs.' And I was like. 'No, its common in Bull dogs and their mixes; as well as other medium to large dogs.' She looked up at me like i didn't know what I was talking about. I know what she asked if snow was deaf or blind. Just looking at her you would swear she was solid white. But she isn't albino and she was from a white breeding. But yea, so what are your store experiences that made you go back to your home store rather then the new store? |

Sounds like our local Petco, it's a mess, food spilled, loose crickets, pee puddles (old ones), sick animals (Their leopard geckos were rail thin
), poor husbandry. And the dog training... too many things to say. I like our local Petsmart, it has a nice selection, but most of it doesn't last too long with my two. So my favorite local store is "The Barkery", they're a bit expensive but they carry awesome stuff, durable, high quality, lots of options, fun dog treats like cupcakes, and only quality food. Bully sticks as well. |

I take Frankie pretty much everywhere I can.
She had a great time at Home Depot. Everyone was super friendly and asked a lot of questions about her. She also a fan of a local farm store. I've been taking her there since I got her, and some of the gals always comment on how much she's grown. A couple days ago, I took her into another local pet store that she's been in once before, a few months ago, and the gal remembered her. I was pretty surprised. I take all three dogs to another farm store and they are well liked there, and always get extra cookies (they'll go to the bulk bin and get bigger cookies because they are too big for small cookies...LOL) I don't go to PetCo or PetSmart too often, mostly because the other stores have better prices. I did take Frankie to both stores a few times when she was younger, mostly for socialization. |

Honestly, she was probably asking because it's pretty common for white dogs to have those issues (especially if they lack any pigmentation around their eyes and ears). White dogs also commonly have genetic health defects due to recessive-recessive breedings and, in some cases, simply breeding for color without regard to health. These defects can include hip dysplasia (on top of allergies, demodex, sensitivities, etc.). I don't think she was as ignorant as you're painting her.

To be honest when I see white dogs my mind goes to deaf first off, then skin issues.
I don't assume every white dog has those problems and I probably wouldn't ask someone straight out, but I'd probably be looking for tell tale signs. I've gone to the same pet store for years. I rarely go anywhere else and when I do I usually get annoyed. I have very specific things in mind when it comes to treats, leashes, shampoos etc. Toys are whatever. I hate when I look for something, they ask me what I'm looking for, I tell them and they recommend some shit and give me a schpeel about it. All wrong usually too. When we were trying to avoid poultry with Roxy I about snapped a few people's necks. Oh there's x brand lamb formula, it's great blah blah blah. Ingredients list, chicken. I said NO chicken! I don't care what the front of the bag says shit for brains! I wanted a leash for Hades once. I'm particular about leashes, they HAVE to be 6 feet, anything else and it will drive me crazy. Usually they have to be thin too. Thick leashes are only for rollerblading. I was looking at a cute little camo leash for Hades and was being indecisive about whether it would slice my hands because of the material when a young girl came up to me, asked if I needed help. Long story short, she saw Hades sitting in the driver's side of the truck and told me that that leash wouldn't be able to hold him. He was way too big, she proceeded to tell me I needed the 2" thick, foot long leather strap for a pit bull.

We have three smaller local pet food/supply stores in my town, I purchase the bulk of my food at one, they have a customer appreciation day every month with 10% which I try to take advantage of.
I also know the owners very well, and stop in often to chat, however I leave my APBT in my truck because they always have their grouchy older dogs wandering loose in the store unfortunately. Last thing I need is a dog altercation with mine, especially since one of their employees doesn't like Pit bulls much. The biggest store is fun to take her to though, but I don't buy much other than treats and the odd thing there. All dogs on leash, and the staff LOVE Zoe and spoil her with treats. It's a good place to go where she is forced to sit and wait for a treat or attention, the staff is really good about asking and she isn't allowed to get away with being a spaz. The third store just opened recently, and I visited it the other day and bought a fabric covered ball which they swore was the only toy their dog hasn't destroyed. I was sucked in of course, bought the damn ball which Zoe proceeded to dismember within five minutes.... The lady at the store told me that Pit bulls destroy things easily because their jaws locked....guess I should have listened. ![]() Holy shit, I just found out yesterday we are getting a PETSMART in town...fricken hallelujuah that is good news! Won't buy my food there, but they have other great stuffs the little guys don't carry...yay! |

I would love to take Romeo to the local store but the store is pretty small and Romeo's to big for it imo. So when I want to buy something I go without him. I take him to Dave's instead when I know there aren't too many people. It's bigger, I like the staff, it's clean and the other people who go there are (for the most part) responsible when it comes to their pets. They also have a bigger selection then the local store. There isn't a Petco or Petsmart near me so I've never been to one.
