Hey guys I'm just wondering about your puppy's first car ride. I took Tyson for his first ride earlier and about five minutes into the road he walked over to my lap from the passenger seat, thinking he was just being sweet. All of a sudden he threw up everything in his stomach on my lap! So I carried him to the back seat and on the way back home he started walking in circles and started throwing up again. I never seen so much vomit in my whole life. Once we arrived home he ran straight to his kennel and slept. I would peek at him inside his dog house every 10 to 15 minutes and he would just wag his tail when I call his name while his eyes are still closed and lied down.
Is this normal? I'm scared to take him for rides now My car smells so bad right now.

And by golly get a good harness/seatbelt combo! I had a teather ring installed behind my passenger seat that I attach a good harness too. Boo got used to it really fast. Never again will I have an accident and have my dog who was riding in the back of a hatch fly out the windsheild!
Short rides through the neighborhood are the way to get them used to the car, my dog LOVES to hear the words "gobyebyecarride". And she is overjoyed if I take the top off and she can see the sky. Again, she is secured in her seat! My car is not a classic convertible, the delSol has a targa that comes off and when she is in the car I leave the side and back window closed for safety. She can sit up, or curl up in the passenger seat, but not get anywhere else. |

Did he vomit bile or actually vomit up his dinner?
---------- Post added at 01:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:51 AM ---------- But, if he continues to get sick, you can call your vet and ask how much dramamine you can give to help settle his tummy for the ride. We used to have to give that to Lucy, our ACD mix when she was younger. She didn't get over being car sick until she was nearly four years old! |

I have found that feeding AT ALL the day of a car ride will induce vomiting if the dog is prone to car sickness... Even if it was 10 hours or more prior! And whole kibble WILL come back up!
The only thing I can suggest is taking him in the car as often as possible! Bindah was my only one who was car sick as a puppy... up until she was a year old! Everyone else was fine from the moment I put them in there... Though Bukra did drool for a few months. |

Poor guy!! I've known a couple people with dogs that got carsick. One just put hers in the back of the truck, so if he did get sick, the inside wouldn't get messy.
Another is a puppy in Frankies obed class. Even tho class is really close, maybe 5 miles from their house, the puppy gets sick. She is getting a little better as she gets older tho. I've been lucky with my dogs. They spend a LOT of time in the car and other than Nick being a little nervous in the early mornings, they all ride great. |
