New pup might be sooner then planned
 

So i don't wanna jump the gun on this...i told the person in question only as a last resort would I consider it.
A friend of the husbands recently..and stupidly..let his mastiff have a playdate with her unfixed brother......yea.. umm 3 weeks from now 10 little mastiff puppies are looking for homes. He wants to home them free to only homes that will spay/neuter...and he is FINALLY getting his bitch spayed.(took a wake up call i guess). So depending on his luck finding good homes for the pups we may be taking one so he doesnt end up in a shelter. What sucks is, that he has no pics of mom or dad to show me...so i dont even know what type/look/color of dog.(old fart who doesnt use pc).
Not sure if I am gonna get one....but i hope i am not in too deep if i do.

At least it's only a maybe. I'm sure you are putting real consideration in to getting this pup or not but make the right choice for you, not because you feel guilty but because you actually want this dog, especially since you could find the pup/adult dog you wanted at the shelter. Especially since you'll have this dog for a long time!

there's NO WAY I'd take a mastiff pup from a backyard breeder who had a brother X sister breeding.

wouldn't call him a backyard breeder...he is spaying the dog and not selling the pups...more of a moron. I told him to call me in a weeks time if the 4 males didnt have homes. If all the males find homes..then I am not getting one.

What do you know about the temperament of the parents? I'd take a free Mastiff pup if I knew the parents were sane.

You don't know what the dogs look like, so I'm assuming you've never properly assessed their temperaments. Not only that, I HIGHLY doubt these dogs are health tested. No way I'm taking a Mastiff without health tests. This doesn't sound like a good situation. JMO.

No way I'd take an inbred byb mastiff pup. Sorry, they could not pay me enough to take it. Do not support this retard by taking a puppy. Instead recommend he spay/abort ASAP!!! She's not even halfway through, there is totally time...

With other pets in my home I wouldn't chance it with an inbred pup.

I would have actually given the above advice and have had her spayed immediately to a few weeks after the incident.

I know an inbred min-pin and he attacks his own shadow he's so paranoid and anxious. I used to be someone who blamed the owner 100% for the dog's behavior but this boy had no idea he was acting in a way that wasn't in self-preservation.

As with any animal, just because it's "likely" a dog with have certain problems does not mean they won't be fabulous an smart. I just wouldn't chance it with such a large dog in a home with other pets.

Inbred doesn't mean the dogs gonna be crazy. It could mean it may have health issues, but if the lines are pretty healthy, that pup will probably be fine. I've been around many inbred dogs, and some VERY inbred. They aren't any different unless there were bad traits that resurfaced.

Pups are 5 weeks old....

IMO I would very carefully access the parents of these dogs, and the entire litter before you make a decision. You were pretty set on not getting a mastiff breed for a couple of reasons that make sense in your situation, no need to risk that now. Just remember, you should really do what is ideal for *your** situation and not this guy who fucked up.

You know what...you two are right, thanks for the insight. I think I shall tell the hubby to let his friend know we just can't take one off his hands...free or not.

Yea, I want a new pup...but Mastiff is much outside of the requirements I wanted in a dog...and I wanted to wait longer then 3 weeks from now. This is why I am glad I have PBC, extra people to talk sense into me. I can be a real pushover and the Husband was practically begging me to say yes to the guy..I guess its his supervisor at work who he smokes with.
