Default can my pitbull ride in the car
I have a ? I have a pitbull and I live in a different county then my family. They live in prince Georges county in Maryland where pitbulls have been banned. My question is can I take my pit with me to visit my family or do o have to leave at home? Can he even cross county line with out getting in trouble. Can he ride in the car in pg county or do I have to drive around that county to get to the next county?

Ouch, that's a tough one. I think I'd call the county sheriff's office or animal control and see what they say. Glad I don't have to deal with it, and good luck.

I agree with catchrcall. Call ahead and make sure its okay. You don't want to get your dog confiscated because the breed isn't allowed in that county.

If you bring your dog in the county, they can seize your dog. Do not do it.

Just because one police officer or AC officer says over the phone that it's fine doesn't mean another ACO or police officer won't confiscate your dog.

I read an article a while back about a truck driver from Texas who had a load to Denver. Supposed to drop off his load, grab another load and be out within hours of arrival. He and his wife lived in the truck with their pit pup. They got stuck staying the night, got spotted walking the pup, pup got confiscated, truck driver had to stay 4 additional days and hire a lawyer to get the pup back even though the officer who took the pup was told they were professional truck drivers just passing through and would be gone when their load was ready in the morning. Ever since reading that I do not take my dogs in the car even just passing through BSL areas.

BSL is BSL and does NOT make exceptions for travelers! I wanted to be a truck driver, so I looked into it... and decided against the profession after learning that if I got pulled over in a place with BSL, my dogs could be taken! Your dog IS going to be illegal if you bring it into their county, and at risk for being confiscated!

Pit Bulls are banned in a city near me. Last year they were having an agility trial there and DH said I couldn't take Rosie because of the ban. I emailed a shelter there and they said if it's for an activity it's fine. The dog can not reside in that area. I printed the letter and keep it in my car.

I'd call and do some checking, each area is different.

I wouldn't risk it myself, I am sorry that you've been put into this situation/dilemma with your dog though. You never know, a bored prick cop may just decide to go ahead and confiscate your dog the day you decide to pay a visit.

Well, in Denver if your dog is raged at the address on your license, thet arecsuooosedvto give you 3 days to leave. And Denver cannkiss my butt igbthry thought they're going to take my dog. I'm not sure it's legal cause it goes against constitutional rights

Denver a pit bull is considered dangerous but not a tiger. Stuid cities

If you absolutely need to bring your dog here is some advice:

Make him wear a disguise. Rabbit ears or deer antlers work well. So does putting a dress and make up on him, and fixing him up like a girl friend. This is especially effective as most cops are afraid of making comments that insinuate your girl friend looks like a dog, so when you say this is my girl friend or wife, they are quick to let you leave so they can make jokes about how ugly she is after your gone.

Another suggestion is put the dog in a baby car seat with a bonnet on him. Same principle as no cop wants to say your baby is ugly or hairy or drools a lot.

My final suggestion is give your dog some tequila, this is a little more complicated because some drunks are happy drunks and others are mean drunks. If your pit bull is a happy drunk no problem, the cops merely arrest the dog for drunk and disorderly and release him as soon as he sobers up. On the other hand if your pit bull is a mean drunk, well that can be a real problem, why? Because he is a pit bull and if they are acting mean, that can be a problem.

Denver sucks, oh I forgot one point. Dressing up your dog as your girl friend works in most cities, unfortunately in Denver very few women have all their teeth so unless your dog is missing a few, it may cause Denver police to become a little suspicious. You can however, put some poorly applied lip stick to him (missing his lips in places) which should convince the police that he really is a girl you picked up at Teddy's the bar at the Holiday Inn near the merchandise mart.

"Effective February 3, 1997, in compliance with the Prince George’s County Code, Section 3-185.01, it is illegal to own or harbor a non-registered Pit Bull in Prince George’s County. To legally own a Pit Bull in the County, your pet must have been registered with the Animal Management Group prior to February 3, 1997 and maintain a current Pit Bull registration. The registration tag must be worn by the Pit Bull at all times. All Pit Bulls with expired registrations are considered illegal and will be impounded, and the owner may be fined or face criminal prosecution. If your registered Pit Bull produces a litter, the puppies are considered illegal and must leave Prince George’s County. Citizens and residents are prohibited by law from selling or giving away Pit Bulls in Prince George’s County."The Code also requires that Pit Bulls be maintained within a building or secured kennel if kept outdoors for any length of time. In addition, the Code states that Pit Bulls outside of a building or kennel must be under the control of an adult and secured by an unbreakable leash. Violations to this provision will result in fines up to $1,000 or a sentence of not more than six months imprisonment.
"Pit Bulls include any and all of the following breed of dogs: Staffordshire Bull Terrier; American Staffordshire Terrier; American Pit Bull Terrier; or dogs that exhibit the characteristics of a Pit Bull more than any other breed of dog."[

Interesting enough, for some states you have an exception for folks traveling through... but you only have 1 hour limit - not sure how they measure this.

I wish that with time this BSL could change... they aim almost always on Pits... it's sad.

We used to train in PG County every weekend, with all types of dogs -- APBTs, AB's, GSD's, etc. At one point, a K9 cop was part of our Schutzhund club, training in PG County. I always have ID that shows I am a VA resident, so I never truly worried. Granted, I wouldn't really stop for prolonged periods of time in super public areas -- but anyone who knows PG County knows there are hundreds of pit bulls walking around all the time. It's ridiculous.
