Looks like the set up Kershner's Dog Town has/had.....
ive been saying for years the cable system is the best way to keep multiple dogs......if you have the space.
i think your right nc cause they had a sign saying 'dog town' lol.
I think its a great way if you have the space and the money.
That takes up a lot of space.
That's really neat. I wanted to do a cable set up for my dogs, but the trees are too thick around here to safely set any up.
My uncle used to use a cable system when he bred in Pa. Also had some kennels. At the end of them he had the dogs houses lined with hay. The dogs loved it.
I'm hoping that by the end of the summer I'm having my cable tie set up http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png
I'm sure my boy will love it http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png just have to figure out how to go about it http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/tongue.png lol |

If you have 20 acres and $20,000, then go right ahead.

Thats what we call a zip line around here. My buddy has Petey set up that way since he likes to cause drama at the fence and they live on a corner lot so they get a lot of people walking dogs go by. They string it up between two trees and now Petey can't reach the fence of hop it. Its doable in a suburban yard if you have just a couple mature trees or are willing to get creative and use one of those old laundry posts...things like that.
Personally, I prefer a chain link kennel with a top and floor because less chance of escape or injury and it keeps the poops all in one place. |
We were given a zip line but I wasn't sure if it was appropriate. I'll definitely have the fiancee get it set up http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

if you have the space and money, GO FOR IT!
If you have the room, money, and resources the go for it. But, most people do not have that much room for that size set up.
another question is, how expensive is something like that? would it be the same or cheaper to have chain link kennel runs up instead?
thats what we have in the backyard at my moms for ace.... she was lucky enough to have 2 trees parallel and that are completely across the back yard from each other
We are actually thinking about doing that for our camping spot (its a fixed spot). The people right beside us have it for their dogs, however they are two itty bitty fluffy things that my purse probably weighs more than.

It would be a lot more physical work to set up though. You'd need at least two people just to set the beams. I'd bury them at least four feet and set them in concrete. The beams are probably the most expensive part, followed by the heavy weight cables. The hardware...probably not very pricey...but you'd want to make sure you purchased the strongest grade for the size needed. You don't wanna go price shopping on things like this. |
the only problem I see is the lack of shade. I see the plywood boards leaning on the barrels.. but depending on how hot it gets there, that could prove disastrous. I like that you could attach the water buckets to the beams, and depending on how much room you have, you could give your dogs SOOOOOO much room to run back and forth. And you know that because they're right next to each other, they will do it more often in play.
Only issue i have with the runners is the higher chance for failure- there are more parts to it than a chain spot, and therefore more chances that one piece of hardware will fail. |
