Katie lifts her leg as well, and kicks up the grass after she poops. She will also back up into bushes to spray. I thought it was funny as well.

Default Leg liftng female
Just wondering if anyone elses female tries to lift her leg to pee on stuff during a walk. Honey started doing this thing where she will kind of back into a bush and try to lift her leg to pee on it. Looks pretty weird and I just chuckle.
is this really uncommon?

Marsha always lifts her legs to pee. She's marking, she's very dominant.

Gypsy will lift her leg occassionally, too...mostly when she is peeing on the other dogs' pee, lol.

When I was younger, we had 2 Goldens.. The female would always lift her leg. She was raised by the male. We figured it had something to do with that.

I had a female who would lift her leg also and I have seen a lot of female dogs at the shelter do it. It's basically because they are dominant and it's perfectly normal.

I always thought it was funny growing up my friend had a female lab/pit bull and a male golden.. the male almost always squat to pee and the female almost always lifted her leg... back then I didnt know why and we thought her dogs were messed up (and we also thought my female was because she humped her blankets in her dog house lol... makes more sence now but as a kid your thinking what the heck?)

Tess didn't mark, and then she was spayed, and now she does. She doesn't lift her leg though...

Cuddles (my lab/husky mix, RIP) used to lift a leg to pee. She was spayed at a very young age (not sure that has anything to do with it).

I have had very non dominant dogs occasionally lift a leg a little as well. I figure they know what they are doing.

My girl Bindah isn't dominant at all to the other dogs' faces, but she marks like crazy! She lifts her leg on everything, and must pee over other dog's pee. The boys also go after her like she's in season sometimes, but she was spayed at four months. Whatever floats their boats! lol

LOL yes. It's ''normal''. I have 3 who are leg lifting females right now. It's marking behaviour.I also have 2 others who back up their butt against things and mark and then do the ''shuffle''.lol

---------- Post added at 08:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------

Its normal, my female also likes to hump
All 5 of my adult females ''hump'',if permitted. My male doesn't hump at all.......... go figure.
