Rottweilers aren't on the list of banned breeds.

You COULD take a well-trained dog of a banned breed before a court and show them how friendly and well-trained it is, but doing so places yourself and the dog at risk. You could be arrested and / or fined for having a dog of a banned breed, and the dog could be destroyed. Really it's up to the judge.

Hi to ya all

My Name is Fiona I live in Scotland UK (new Proud Member) The reason Im posting today is that for years and even as a child i have loved dogs of all breeds my real love is rottweilers and Pitbulls but as you all probably know Pitbulls are banned from this Country (unjustly may i add) for a time it seemed like the Rottweiller was going to be banned as well but instead they have been put on the dangerous dog list (again unjustly) anyway my Big boy Hannable the rotty died I have just adopted a beautiful dog named Ricco I seen his mum (Full breed Staffordshire bull terrier) but the dad had gone back home i was told his dad was just a bigger SBT I know my breeds as i studied them for years, I would like your opinion as i feel he is a cross Pitbull and SBT which i love if he is but if the authourites find out i will have him seized and destroyed regardless that he is a loving family pet who is brilliant with kids and other animals. The photo i have at the minute was taking as a pup he has grown out quite a bit since then. More muscles now also.

Thanks Guys
im about 400 miles south from you......the chances of having your dog taken and destroyed are very slim the laws have calmed right down now since the ammendmant to the dda......ie,the animal welfare act.....

unless your dog does something wrong,i wouldnt worry about losing him.....have a look round all the major uk cities from london to leeds to glasgow you will see apbt,s walking the streets in clear view of police, mostly with a 16 year old wannabe gangster attached to them
as regards his breeding.....if you dont know im sure nobody else does and its near impossible to tell from a picture.....so just call him a bull terrier cross

Rottweilers were never on the DDA
In the 1991 act the four dogs that get mentioned are

  • the Pit Bull Terrier
  • the Japanese Tosa
  • the Dogo Argentino
  • the Fila Braziliero

Unless the dog is registered and was bred from registered parents by a reputable breeder you will never know for sure what he is. I would call him anything that will keep him safe even if I had to claim Lab mixed with Boston Terrier lol.

My vet put that Lucy is a lab mix on her records in the event that a breed ban would come to town. I'd recommend doing that.

Hi Fiona

I also live in Scotland just outside Edinburgh
I read your post post and wondered if you had a link to where you heard
that rottweilers were on the DDA ?
I know in light of the recent news about them there was talk of it,
but as far as i know they are not on the DDA.

While we're on the subject of lists and bans in the UK, I was wondering about the Index of Exempted Dogs. From what I have been reading on the web it is possible to take a banned breed dog before a panel and if the dog passes temperament tests it can be legally owned. Anyone from over there have any experiences with this Index or heard stories?
