My dogs will wear whatever I want to put on them. If someone is ignorant enough to be fearful of him because he's wearing metal, well, they would be scared of him without it and are probably not worth my time. Any time I get a comment on how mean my FLAT stillwater collar is I ask "How is it mean? The wider a collar is the less pressure it puts on the neck, it spread it out." And they're usually dumbstruck...
Your dogs, do what YOU want as long as it's not harming the dogs health. I'm about to get my boy a leather heavily spiked collar because I love the look and I know how handsome he'll look in it. Good thing I'm a female, people won't think I'm compensating for lacking parts ![]() I wear my dead grandfathers thick silver chain, ugly antique rings and a broken watch because I like it. People say crap all the time about how they don't like it. I'm unique - it's my opinion that matters when it comes to my body and my dogs.. That's just my opinion... |

I love that picture of Moose in your sig. I'm jealous of both you and your family, I wanted a mastiff so bad, but I ended up with a Saint Bernard (which are sometimes called Alpine Mastiffs, so I guess I got my mastiff). ![]() ---------- Post added at 12:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:25 PM ---------- You know you just want the spiked collar on J so your boobs will look bigger. |

Yeah your deff part of the mastiff club ![]() Before I got Ethel, I'd only met 1 Saint in my life, my friend's boy Bandit. Once you meet one, you're in love, and you have to get one. When I have more room, I need as many as I can afford. I have a bunch of her puppy to present pictures in the Photography section. They are hands down the most adorable puppies. I couldn't even be mad at her when she ate my carpet and part of my dresser. |

People's ego & self centeredness is one of the reasons - if not THE main reason - this breed is in so much trouble. I think chain collars look good, so I'm going to put one on my dog. Yeah, it puts the breed in a bad light, but I like it so I'm going to do it anyway. I think spiked collars look good, so I'm going to put one on my dog. Yeah, it puts the breed in a bad light, but I like it so I'm going to do it anyway. I think huge heads, barrel chests, pug noses & stumpy legs look cool so I'm going to breed for it even though it harms the dogs & puts the breed in a bad light. I like it, so I'm going to do it anyway. I like back yard rolling my dog & feeding it gun powder, crushed glass & letting it beat up on bait dogs. Yeah, it puts the breed in a bad light & yeah, that's not how it's done but it makes ME look cool so I'm going to do it anyway. I like BYB'ing unworthy dogs & selling pups for $150 to any jackarse with cash. Yeah, it puts dogs in the wrong hands, but I like having puppies & I like getting paid, so I'm going to do it anyway. Hmmmm. Anyone see a common theme here? I. I. I. I. I. It's all about ME & what I want. To hell with the well being of the dogs. It's all about what the owner wants, right? The sad, bad fact is there are many things that come part & parcel with owning certain breeds. In the case of APBTs & other "tough guy" breeds public perception is one of them. YOU can put any kind of collar you want on your dog. YOU might think it looks cool. No one can tell YOU what to do. It's YOUR dog. But ask yourself - is what YOU like best for your dog? Is it best for the breed? In most cases probably not. And the saddest part is if the shoe were on the other foot & our bulldogs had to give up what THEY wanted to save our lives, odds are they would. The question is can you put aside your ego & self-centered wants to return the favor? Blessings & whisker kisses ... |

People's ego & self centeredness is one of the reasons - if not THE main reason - this breed is in so much trouble. I don't feel I should have to be aware of my surroundings so all the dog owners should have to turn their lives upside down so I am safe. I think that dog looks scary so I want it destroyed (before it does something to deserve it not after) I don't like my neighbors and since they have one of "those" dogs I will call AC on them and turn them in. I think how other people take care of their dogs or how their dogs look should be the way I like even though it is their dog and they pay all the costs involved with it. It really is a boring game, can we play something else? |

You are 110% completely right Sasha! Your post is EXACTLY why we SHOULD put aside selfish wants & actually care what JQP thinks of our dogs!! Because it DOES go both ways! Do you think parading a dog around in a chain or spiked collar is b/c that is what YOU like is going to enhance our breed's image with those who don't know them or are already afraid of them? No. Of course not. It will just implant or enhance their fear.
These people are already gathering in legion to destroy our breed. Why give them more reason to fear? But guess what? While they have the power to destroy our dogs, we have the power to save them! All we have to do is put the dogs before our own wants once in a while. To use an example of my own - Greta, my GSD has graduated from her prong to a regular choke chain. You would not believe the change it has made. People are right back to wanting to love on her again. Now she is not seen off my property with her prong collar on. Can you imagine what the world would be like to the "outsiders" of this breed if APBT owners who fancied the "tough guy" stuff would take that tack & make their dogs more friendly looking instead of like some baby eating monster? And as a side note, ditching the tacky chains & spikes does not mean you have to give up stylish collars. I've seen some very nice collars that were studded (not huge studs though) or have beautiful silver or brass concho accents. I myself try to make my dogs as approachable as possible, for the breed's sake. JMHO. Blessings & whisker kisses ... |

I do not like chains and spikes on dogs... so i do not use them.
I live with my choices and I expect you to do the same. I ask no sympathy from you for the results of my choices, and I extend none to you. I take the freedom and right I have to do what I want with my property. I recognize your right to do the same. I keep my "told you so's" to myself, but I do enjoy them. ![]() |

I am sick to death of having to worry what JQP thinks of my dogs. I refuse to bend over backwards to placate a huge group of willfully stupid doggy drama queens. If you can't take a look at me with my well behaved and very friendly dogs and know I am not a thug with badass dogs then I would hazard guess that you're a moron.
I will dress them or not dress them how I please because they are mine. I will put what collar I like on them and if it happens to be a spike collar, bullet collar, flat 2-3 inch collar or fake chain then that's that. If people can't take a joke like a plastic collar then fuck em! I will also be the first person having a talk with city hall if they even hint about BSL as I have done for other cities. I wear t-shirts like "I'm not fluent in idoit so please speak slowly" and "I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter" everywhere, so maybe its just my attitude but I have noticed one thing. If one is constantly on the defensive and apologizing for doing nothing wrong people will keep attacking. I say do as you please as long as no one else is getting hurt and tell the asshats that complain and talk shit about the breed to jump off a cliff and take their kids with them since we really don't need any more stupid people. If you are constantly worried what others think about your bully breed dogs than you probably aren't having as much fun as you should/could be. |

Amen to that MJ! I too get tired of how people feel about the way my dog looks or whatever he maybe wearing. "Oh, wow that's a big collar on him...are you sure he's manageable?" ..."Uh yeah, considering he's sitting quietly beside me because I told him too." Geez, let the dog's behavior speak for itself, not its collars.

Plus I have never had any issues since day one with people coming up to see moose. I get alot of questions like does he eat your couch and drink all your beer, and your car must be a mess. He has such a goofy personality that people fall in love with him. The only difference now that he has gotten bigger is that some people and parents will ask if they can pet him, which is good anyway. Seems to be that the pictures are the problem. Like others said their behavior is more important then the collar. |

Seriously, if a person is afraid of my dogs because of their COLLAR, I don't want their stupid asses near my dogs, or even within earshot of me. Those are the kind of idiots who claim they got mauled, when in reality they got a little scratch, as well as the people who would let my dogs walk all over them because disciplining dogs is cruel, those who baby talk the crap out of my dogs getting them riled up or man handling and trying to wrestle them, again, I don't want those people around. I really never got the point of being so worried about what other people think. I had always thought we as a society had gotten over that keeping up with the neighbors crap of the 50's. We, and our dogs, are individuals, with our own tastes, fashion, etc. and should be allowed to do as we please and just enjoy our lives. There's a reason this freaking country is hopped up on depression pills and anti anxiety meds, and it's stupid crap like this, trying to please everybody. I'm not going to run out and get my girls each a Coach collar because some airhead bimbo puts that crap on her yorkie poo and her pibble wibble, and that makes everyone rush up to pet her pibble wibble snooky poo. |
