Yup, I see those all the time and for all breeds. Starts out an obvious breeder and ends up a "rescue". I also see the smart ones just start off with a litter of papered purebred pups but they only advertise one, claim they just bought it and can't keep it for some reason and they keep posting til the whole litter is sold. You can always tell those guys because the pic of the pup for sale changes every day but the wording and contact info do not.

Yeah - we get those A LOT on Craigslist.
We had a real "winner" a few weeks ago. I can't remember what the dates were, but they went something like this: May 14th: 8 weeks old australian shepherd puppy. we paid good money for her. must go to good home due to allergies. May 15th: we are looking for an australian shepherd puppy to add to our home. we prefer merle but cant pay alot. please help! we need one! our last one died (insert detailed info as to how.) May 16th: australian shepherd puppy. 10 weeks old. male. merle. we paid good money for him. must go to good home. have to rehome because other dogs don't like him. (contact info was the same for all three ads....personal e-mail address....not anonymous) I love the CL ads that say something like this: STOP FLAGGING YOU B**CHES! WE ARE NOT BREEDERS! Ten purebred pittbull puppies need homes. They were a surprise. Small rehoming fee to good home! (A quick internet search shows this person listed as a "kennel" in Georgia...small rehoming fee is $400/puppy.) --------------- Then we have this..... "Purebred blue pit bull puppies. Gotti / Razors Edge bloodlines. No papers. $500/ea." |

Do yourself a favor, and never go on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wanna guess where I found the Basset Hound I am meeting Monday? I was actually on CL looking for ads to post in the "Best of CL" thread and happened to see this "Male 3 yr old bassett hound. He is tricolor,a good looking dog. Fixed, microchipped, house and crate trained, up to date on shots, not overweight, in good condition. Sweet loving dog, just doesn't fit our lifestyle. This is a private adoption, no rescue, but there will be vet refs and home visit needed. (just to ensure everyone being forthright-there are flippers and bunchers out there!!) A contract will need to be signed. Willing to take dog back if there is an issue. We are not asking for a fee, just a good loving home. Email and let us know why you want a Bassett hound. He is good with other animals (dogs and cats!!) and kids. Not a nuisance barker but he alarms if someone coming onto property. Will come with bed and all supplies to the right family. He Needs to be walked every day or he gets bored and is an in the house dog. I am having some issues with my pc where my pics are so will do pics when i get rid of that virus!! sorry, he is a good looking dog. " Soo, yeah. Either stay off CL or you WILL end up with a housefull! In my defense, the hubby has a Basset sticker on our computer, has been watching Columbo and especially loves the Basset on the show, actually has researched Basset Hounds and even though we were looking for an SBT we had hard time finding one plus I really really really wanted to avoid another puppy as they are the devil in a cute baby dog suit. Since we were down to Basset or SBT (I said stay w the bullies til we were old then get Bassets) and we actually found a prospective Basset, maybe its fate. |

Ugh...I knew there was a reason I avoided the craigslist pet ads. On the bright side, I *did* furnish my entire home for peanuts off of craigslist...antique desk for $100, set of nice wooden kitchen chairs for $25, two decent barstools for $15.... |

Yeah, I got my pup from an "adoption". The ad said 10 week old pure bred pit bull puppy. First shots and wormed, very sweet. Small adoption fee applies to make sure he finds a good home.
The guy had three pups, but I see how hard it is for people to post their pets on craigslist. EVERYthing gets flagged. I think people do it just to be jerks. Who knows. |

A pit bull we had was a CL puppy. The owners had this long drawn out patriotic story about deployment, etc. When we showed up at the house, we could tell that these folks weren't getting deployed anywhere. The puppy was $50 "first come, first serve." We drove 2-1/2 hours to get him, and after we had handed the owner $50 and had the puppy (bloated with worms) the fiancée got a phone call from a guy that had just pulled in the neighborhood and said he was willing to pay $100. I said, "you said first come, first serve!" The fiancée glared at the guy who said, "yeah...you're right."
They had some story about how they got him from a breeder in TN, he was 12 weeks old, he "wouldn't housetrain" so they locked him in the basement. * Puppy was NO MORE than 7 weeks old * Puppy was so bloated with intestinal worms that when I was holding him, I had worms crawling over my shirt. * Puppy ended up being "Cash," that was euthanized August 2009 due to an unstable and unpredictable temperament and human aggression. Guess what I found online a few weeks ago? "Pit puppies - MUST sell! Now $80!" The pictures in the ad? The house where we got Cash ![]() |
