I'm not afraid of GSD's, but I know that I will NEVER put my face by one. Or even touch one if I can help it. They're fine in their own little world as far as I'm concerned.
Northern breeds can be a little touchy...same with f'ing dalmations. I had a dalmation try to take my hand off a few years ago. The only dog that I would n-o-t touch or even pass closely by are presa canarios. Not because all of them are mean, but I know that majority of the people owning them have probably not got a handle on them. I've got a soft spot for cane corsos and hope to own one someday, but I'd treat them similarly unless I knew the owner. |

I know a lady who wouldnt come to my house because we have dobermans. she is terrified of them, even though shes never been bitten by one or had any bad experiences with them during the times she did come over. however she was once bitten pretty bad by a neighbor's labrador pulling it out of her garbage cans. within the year she went out and got her young son a lab pup.
There is no breed I am afraid of, with any dog I am usually careful though, if i dont know it. |

As silly as it sounds,I am nervous around Chihuahuas.I can't say I 'fear' any dog breeds in particular, but Chi's make me rather nervous. I have never met a ''nice'' chi, though I am sure they must be out there. My experiance with Chi is self limited at this point.I simply just don't trust them, due to my own experiance with them.I could have just met every unstable chi around,or they are ''that way'' naturally.Show me a 'nice',well trained and well mannered chi and I will be impressed, and reconsider my veiw on the breed. They seem to me to be rather snippy, manic and neurotic, highly unstable and unpredictable and I havent a clue why people want to own them.As I had stated, this is based on my own experiance with a limited amount of chis.
As for people having the ''right'' to OWN chihuahuas.Ok.Fine.To each his own. ''I'' would never own a chi, myself, but I wouldn't frown on others owning one,if that is the breed they want. |

I am a groomer, I "fear" no dog. Ive had my hand punctured in 3 places by a boxer X (trying to get its jaws off my dogs neck, i was young and no one would help me, it was otherwise a great dog, i know if was my fault,it didnt mean to) attacked by a crazed chocolate lab, who fought against his owner to try to kill me delivering pizzas years ago ("hes never done that before!") been threatened by countless dogs....yet i still take the most difficult dogs, i dont even have breeds dislike...they are all indiviguals. i know who/what to be careful of, but, maybe im just crazy, but i feel the "fearlessness" is empowering.. well, added with the fact that i know dog body language seemingly as second nature.. i have yet to be seriously bitten

Hmm, my experience with Chi's, the ones with complete furmommies, they are nervous, unsure, completely untrained, are carried more than they walk... Being treated like a doll can mess up any dog. But a Chi raised like any other dog is okay, in my experience... My brother owns a chi, and he lets her get away with more, granted, but otherwise treats her just like his pit mix, and she's pretty good.
I have been bitten by chi's more than I would care to count... lol |

I will say I'm not truly afraid of any breed, but I don't trust GSDs, Rotties, or Chows that I don't know very well.
We had neighbors that had pit bulls, Rotties, and Chows chained all over their yard. The male Rottie was super sweet, but the female would rather kill you than look at you. But I think it was a combo of bad breeding and the way she was raised. But her pups- the one they kept was fine. So who knows. Another neighbor also had a Chow, Stormy. He just always stared at you with these creepy eyes. I did at the vets office one day meet a very friendly Chow Chow, but that isn't their normal personality with strangers. And I haven't yet met a stable tempered GSD so I that is the one and only breed I just avoid completely. I won't foster, transport, or nothing with them. Plus I've had my dogs attacked by them more than any other breed over the years and they do not like them. |

lol @ obed.
i'm in the park of "not afraid, but have a healthy respect for certain breeds". it varies, i'm vary wary of a lot of little dogs simply b/c it's rare to meet a well mannered and obedient one. i am a big dog girl at heart. there's not too many big babies i don't love. and to those who are afraid of or dislike chows, you have that right, but they are wonderful dogs. my first dog as a little girl was a chowchow/akita mix (there's that curly tail Obed lol) and he was the best and sweetest dog ever. he died of old age at 14 and had never once in his life hurt anyone or anything. as someone who worked in a kennel, i've met all kinds. i think a wolf-hybrid would unnerve me simply b/c they're just too close genetically and mentally to the wild to put me at ease with their stability. |

Hmm, from what I know of chow chows, they are ONE person dogs. They're stubborn, aloof, and tough. They are not violent wackjobs, it's that most CC owners do not know how to handle a working dog like that. They get an adorable fluffball and aren't a good leader or owner... i'd have to say dalmatians. when i was younger one ripped my nose off of my face. so yea, i don't particularly care for them.i've had many dalmatians nip at me too, so it wasn't just a one time thing that changed my opinion. i've just never met a nice one. I do not like chihuahuas, labs, goldens and jack russels. Chis are very nasty tempered and when they come up snarling and biting I just get too much of an overwhelming need to pick it up and snap its neck in front of its owner. Labs and goldens are just f'ing retarded. Can't stand the damn dogs. Jack russels are in the same class as chis. I'm not scared of any one breed but I dislike a lot of breeds. |

you guys are full of shit... ![]() ![]() And don't get me started on cats. ![]() Honestly, breed of dog I'm scared of? Not really 'scared' of any breeds, I certainly take precautions around guardian breeds. I let them do their thing on their own time. I also try not to touch most little dogs, at all. But that's not really a breed either. |

I'm not afraid of any dog based on breed.
I do size up dogs as individuals and love on the friendly ones, give space to the aloof ones and a healthy amount of respect to the ones that act like they may be a hair's breath away from trying to eat my face. That said...I do not like the droolers...and I'm ashamed to say, I probably neglect them in the love department. |

I tend to give most strange dogs a cautious approach at first. Not scared, but I carefully watch how they react as people approach them. The only dog I was ever seriously attacked by was a Irish setter looking mix dog that used to live down my street. I've seen a huge loosed rott attack and try to get a baby from a mothers arms on the beach once. That wasn't a fun thing to witness, but luckily the father fought the dog off and everything was fine. My first cousin was seriously bitten by our relative's shepherd when she was a small kid. They told her not to go in the room with him since she didn't know him, she did and she got pretty badly bitten. One of my aunt's chocolate lad started going after her son who was pretty small at the time back in the 90's. He was gotten rid of very quickly with a one way trip to the vets. A good friend of mine was bitten in his face and head by the "family" golden when we were kids, over a ham sandwich he was holding. A friend of my dad's had some sweet ass wolf hybrids who lived in 2 huge fenced enclosures on his property. One pack would most likely view you as food while the other group were pretty friendly really. I think a couple of the more "wild" group actually attacked him on more than one occasion.
As far as specific breeds go, Presas and Ovcharkas are two I would be extra cautious around. Actually I would not attempt to interact with them unless there was a good reason, solely because I know what their intended purposes are as a breed. Which is to be no shit kill you and eat you guardians in dangerous country where they're needed. Beautifully designed for this purpose, but you know most of us don't live in the badlands of central Asia where bandits murder you and steal the three sheep you're going to use to buy a new wife or whatever, lol. So anyway, rambling aside, I'm not overly concerned with any one breed. But I do take each dog as it comes and see where it's head it at. |
