I know shes not a pit bull, but I thought I would share her story here, Since I couldn't find an appropriate spot.
It was a late night at the hospital when we got a sick pet in. A girl, younger, about 19 and her younger brother came in with a small, weak 2 month old chihuahua puppy. They said the puppy was having vomiting and diarrhea. We offered her a parvo test, and she declined, having no money at all. She was told, if it is Parvo, the chances of survival were slim. She was waiting at the front desk to check out when our receptionist over heard her phone conversation with a boyfriend. She was telling him, 'Well, im just going to throw her out of the car on the way home, yea, well, she's sick so im just going to get rid of her.' The receptionist ran to the back and told us, 'Hey, shes going to throw the dog out of her car on the way home!' We went up front, and offered her another option. We said to her, if you can't afford treatment, you can sign her over and we will take care of her bill and adopt her out.' I didn't have a dog at the time, just my cat and 2 ferrets, so I volinteered to take her, and keep her. The girl signed the papers and cried a bit first. Which I find weird. We did a parvo test, and it came back positive, a light positive which means we porbably caught it early on. I remember my boyfriend coming into the hospital, and I said to him, 'Babe, we have a dog.' He said in return 'WHAT? We have a dog?' I handed him the sick puppy and he fell in love. To this day, little Isis, at her biggest weight now of 8.2 pounds, is his favorite dog. I told john (my boyfriend) to not be suprised if we woke up one day, and she has passed. Parvo can look like its improving, and then take a turn for the worst. And she was very very sick. I set my alarm clock to wake up every 3 hours to force feed her pedialtye for three days. I got no sleep, and John said to me, 'I had no idea I was dating such a caring person' as I continued my fight to keep Isis alive. She was only sick for a few days and she made a remarkable recovery. Her name tag on her collar proudly states 'I survived Parvo.' Isis health began to improve and her true colours were starting to show. It wasn't pretty. Being the little ankle bitter she is, she was cage agressive, food agressive, treat posesive, everything. One time she was chewing on a bone and John was playing with her ans she went for his face. Throught time, we were able to break her of her bad habbits. Im not fond of little dogs, but she came to me the day before Thanksgiving, and she will be the only little dog in my life. She is never babied like people like to do with little dogs, and she is durable as all hell. She will go mountain climbing with us, to the lake, she can do it all. Here are some pics of my little dog. She is 1 year and 4 months old now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
