Default Is it me or...
I am new here and I am not trying to offend anyone. But, is it just me or does anyone else feel that taking your pit bull hog hunting or making them pull heavy items is just wrong??

If you don't agree with me, which is totally fine, can you please tell me why it is ok...

Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with taking your pit bull hog hunting or having them weight pull. These are athletic dogs. If you take a look in our Events forum, you'll see just how happy these dogs are doing what they love to do.

Here's a few threads on weight pulling events:

these dogs love to work. I've only had my first pitty pup for a while but my sister and bro in law have had them for years. they love to go hunting, and love to pull stuff around. her pits pull around kids on sleds in the winter and love it.

A lot of members on here are into weight pulling. I don't see any thing wrong with it, but I, personally, don't weight pull. I'm sure there are some that do the hog hunting thing on here too, so it's not unheard of.

I have watched some videos of hog hunting. seems like it could be great for an avid hunter and a well trained dog(s) but could for sure be risky.
Them hogs can cut you like a knife and could do so to the dog if they are not carefull.
I garentee the dogs get a hell of a kick of of it. Its their nature. I could only imagine the rush it would give that dog and the feeling of accomplishment when the hog is gotten.

Thank you all for not getting offended. And thank you for explaining why it is done.

I dont know anyone who does these things with their dogs so I was basing my opinion on ingnorance. I thought it was mean to them. But upon seeing the pictures, you all are right. They truly love it.

Thanks again!

Be sure to check out our Sports and Obedience section. I'm sure you will find a lot of threads on there about weight pulling, and maybe some on hog hunting too! The only hogs Mollie ever hunts are the ones that come from the frying pan.... extra crispy please Nana!

I definitely don't think it's mean. I have been to a few weight pulls, and there was only one dog I saw that didn't seem to be enjoying himself, and I felt bad for him, but the rest were in their element.

As for hog hunting, it can be dangerous, but as long as you take all the precautions, then it's fine, since these are working dogs.

I am happy you are willing to listen to both sides though.

It's wonderful that you were openminded and learned something that changed your perception here. I didn't really understand a lot of things bully breeds were used for at first either. Now that I've learned so much here, I'm really wanting to learn more about how to train for weight pulling. It's amazing how much cool stuff that can be learned in this forum.

I've never done weight pull with my dogs, but I have done carting, hooking them up to a wagon and getting them to pull it, with the kids or groceries and such in it. They LOVED it. As soon as I would get the harness out they'd be jumping around all excited and ready to go! lol Even with something as simple as running the mill. When one dog is on it, the rest of them scream because they want to go, too! lol Work is what working dogs love to do!
