I notified him at the time it was closing.
I believe he has been advised about the new forums. It would be great to have him back as a supporter of the concept. After all, that's how they started.

Boppa, I sent him a msg shortly after we found out about the end. It appeared to be the first time he had heard about it, but he did not specifically say so.

Sadly I seriously doubt he even knows of this forum..

certainly his interest in the old sssf was minimal to non existent in the last few years

he certainly didnt post very often- and even on his thursday show, he didnt even mention it in the last few years

We SSSFers are never happy.

We wanted user mods to keep trolling at bay. Now, that's not good enough. We want a community which is social and sciencey. Not good enough either- some people want sports threads, some people don't, some want a separate social area (personally, I thought that was called "chat"). Now there are complaints on a third party site not affiliated with here about stuff that happens here. I guess that's natural; we were all sad when the old SSSF was turned off and we're looking to fill that void.

From my POV, this forum is an experiment to see if it is worth keeping the ABC forums alive. Dr K hasn't been on the forums for years, does it matter if he knows about these ones or not? There's still a lot of discord in the members- would any of you recommend these forums to friends or people interested in science? If you don't like the forum, don't come here. Go build your own forum (or join omegafour.com).

We're never going to get the old forum back. This new one has lots of features that, when used well, enhance the forumming experience. It's better to be able to keep SSSF/Scribbly/TT going than to be thrust out in the cold where we lose the community altogether.

I'm always happy and I like this forum I liked the old one too but I think this one is more civilised. I still have no complaints about the mods though things that happen behind screens cannot be seen by myself.

I'm happy with the forum, the modding & the complaints resolution process.
I was a mod on another forum & it taught me a lot about treating every problem unemotionally on its merits. This seems to be our mods modus operandi also.

I have just received a request from a "shit mod mal ballard" for friends.

Sorry mate/lady, I don't really know who you are, and I remain suspicious of internet friendships....
If you want to be friends, page me at the East League's Club Saturdays and/or Sundays most times.

I can't believe people run off to another forum to whinge about the modding on this one. I got a warning from a mod the other day and, while I don't agree with it, I accept that that's the way the modding is going to work around here and that the forum can't be all things to all people. Deal with it.

Also, well said AWM.

I can, I recall the PA forum wars, there were about three different forums (or four depending on how you counted) with bitching across them all and not just bitching at mods. After a while it crowded out any political debate, strangers might be attracted to a Political Forum but they were confronted with a confounding civil war with combatants across different forums and with the various bannings, deletions, name changes and socks it was impossible for a stranger to figure out what was going on so they left. Thus they imploded.

its only the same if you were complaining about another pub that perhaps refused you entry...

i am more concerned that the admin from here judges it ok to go to another forum to see what we say about this one. and doesn't announce their presence. bit like looking in through the window.

Why is that a problem? I'm not a member there but if I was to ever go there and see what was happening do I need to let you know?

The advantage is that we can talk 'over there' freely without penalty here.

Ok, I can't believe people whinge about the modding here on another forum and don't just take it up here. Apologies if they did and I just missed it, but from the OP it sounds like they didn't.
