Hi,
I've just realised you've all moved, so am posting this in here now in the hope that someone can help me. I have a particular website I frequent of which I am signed up to & had in my favourites. Up until last week all was fine, but then when I used my favourites link the site wouldn't open, it just had a blank page saying I had lost my internet connection. But I still had connection as I could open all other sites. So I tried googling the site and going in from that way, but still the same problem. I've given it over a week now and have spoken to others that visit that site without any troubles, so the site still works fine.. I just can't access it. Could I have clicked something by mistake or is there something else it could be ???? misty |

In the other thread you've said that some other people are having trouble as well?
If you copy and paste the address of the website you are trying to reach into the box on this site - it will tell you if "it's down for everyone or just me" http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ This is a screenshot of what the site the looks like ![]() |

In the other thread you've said that some other people are having trouble as well? Thanks ilago., I followed your instructions & it says 'it's just me' ![]() However, I did follow rods advice (on the other thread - confusing ..lol) & used the proxy he suggested and 'hey presto' it worked. I don't really understand the proxy bit.... is it safe. Do they now track me? What do proxy sites gain from being a proxy? sorry for all the questions. |

__________________________________________________ _____ Proxies are often used by people in Australia trying to access websites overseas that have geographical blocks in place. The BBC, for example, use IP number based blocks to stop people outside the UK from accessing some of the content on their website. They are commonly used in countries with very restrictive internet policies so people can access information. I think this is just an incidental error. It's a little more complicated than that but that's close enough. If you still have problems in a few days, there are some other things we can help with. |

Proxies aren't dangerous, nor are they going to track you or anything. Try and imagine a proxy connection as a transparent gateway. Your ISP issues you with an IP number when you connect. All websites have IP numbers so the internet works properly and web addresses can be understood by computers. The proxy sits between you and the website and provides the website with a different source IP number so it looks as though you are someplace else. ![]() I'll let you know if it rights itself... meanwhile I'll just use the proxy. thank you. |

I have come across such problems before with one of the cheaper ISPs. (Engine, I think it was) Websites would work for months, then just vanish.
You ultimately have to get in contact with your ISP for them to fix it, unless you can work your way around the problem. BTW, you can easily check where the problem is by using the Tracert command in Windows. This website shows you how to use it: http://www.mediacollege.com/internet...raceroute.html |
