Frosty, you'll have to upload your image to an on-line hosting site such as photobucket, flickr etc and link to it there.

G'day Geoff.
I have the images in my Windows Video Library.
But I don't know how to put them into my message.
Normally I have used an "upload an image" feature on websites.
This has made it really easy for some one like me. An internet/pc ejit.

I can't tell how to "Add an Image from Url" when I click the add image button.
I can follow easy click this, click that instructions but I don't understand a lot of the short abbreviated pc jargon

Thanks for any help

This forum (for bandwidth's sake) has disallowed attaching images but does allow you to link images from other sites.

ie: a Flickr account or photobucket, imgur etc.. upload to them and link back here.

Hiya frosty,
roughbarked mentioned a few, flickr is one I like most.
Among the reasons are that there is some fine help on IDing things there as well as here.

http://www.flickr.com/

It is free and is also easy to use and doesn't have popups and flashing things like photobucket (used to have).

photobucket free accounts are a real pain in the bottom.. particularly for dialup users.

I've spent hours and hours adblocking and still get NoScript warning of cross linking and clickjacking.. but I am able with use of bookmarks to slip into a page unruffled by ads.. eventually

Looks like image uploads are a bother.. so why not try a description.. lets's start with the gum part.. Is the tree one of those smooth barked with little or no bark attached after it sheds annually?
if so, you have colloquially speaking.. got the gum tree part correct.

Now.. let's move on. How else can you describe the tree?

G'day roughbarked,.,I read what you've wrote,
'''I've spent hours and hours adblocking and still get NoScript warning of cross linking and clickjacking.. but I am able with use of bookmarks to slip into a page unruffled by ads.. eventually'''
Don't take this the wrong way, but to me, that may as well be written in Zulu. It's lost on me. I don't understand all that stuff. But I do appreciate all help that is given.
I can't understand why a photo can't be taken from my Windows Library and put in a Scribbly post.
Windows is where all my photos are stored and I've always been able to use them quite simply with a couple of clicks to put them in a posting,.,before I encountered the Scribbly forum.
I'm confused. Why do I have to now try to figure out how to choose another website besides my Windows one, that can best store images to then put my images into another website etc etc. Crikey.
I don't know about url names of photos.
In fact,.,looking up what a url is was scary.
I tried to look it up and just got swamped with stuff that confuses me even more.
====
PS,.,I think my tree is a Ghost Gum. It is a very large gum with similar colour to a Scribbly Gum and does have some of the Scribbly Gum markings.
I wish I could simply show a photo of it.

Frosty, maybe this would work. If you've been able to upload photos elsewhere, would it be possible to do that and then point us in the right direction? Have you uploaded them to a blog or somewhere like that?

A url is just the web address of a site, e.g. the url for the ABC is http://www.abc.net.au . Don't get too hung up on exactly how they work!

Although your browser is using the internet, the rest of your computer, where your photos are stored, is not. This site doesn't allow direct uploading. For us to see them, they need to be stored on line. Have a look at http://imageshack.us/ You don't need to register, you can simply click on "browse" and explorer will open. Find your pictures and select to upload. When you click "Upload", a list of links will appear - just use the link that says "forum code" with the square brackets.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I asked for a description and since you have only vaguely mentioned some descriptive aspects, I'll offer some suggestions or questions if I can think of them all, if perhaps not at once. Firstly you say you are from the south coast and that you have an idea of what a scribbly gum looks like or at least the colouring. Does the tree naturally occur in bushland on the south coast? Is this tree tall and straight or spreading? Is the bark smooth gum bark all the way up? Does the tree have a roughbarked basal stocking? Have you seen the flowerbuds and fruit? Do you have photos of those?

As to uploading pictures.. it isn't terribly difficult once you get through it the first time. Just arrange all the photos you want to show in the same subfolder on your computer or at least arrange them with titles or numbers that keep them together so you can find them all in the same spot. Then click on http://www.flickr.com/ (by the way

In southern areas, the Lemon Scented Gum is often mistaken for a Ghost Gum. Scrunch up a few of its leaves and if strongly lemon scented, then that is what you have.
