the Prophet told someone in a dream that chaos and turmoil in the world are because of three things: tv, music and free mixing. if we carry on with these the entire world will be destroyed.

by watching films and leering at men and women on the tv, the entire home is commiting adultery and inviting destruction.

Anas May Allah be pleased with him says, “I went into the presence of Aishah, may Allah be pleased with our mother, whilst someone else was seated with her. The person asked, ‘O Mother of the believers, relate to us regarding earthquakes’ She turned her face away. I (Anas) asked her, ‘Relate to us regarding earthquakes, O Mother of the believers!’ She said, “O Anas, if I were to inform you thereof, you will live a sorrowful life and you will die in this state of grief and you will be raised on the Day of Judgement whilst this fear is in your heart.” I said, “O Mother, relate to me.” She then said, “When a woman removes her clothes in a house other than her husbands, she tears the veil between her and Allah. When she applies perfume to please a male other than her husband, for her is fire and disgrace. Then when the people begin to commit adultery, consume alcohol and use musical instruments, Allah becomes enraged in the heavens and orders the Earth to shake them. If they repent and refrain (it is good for them), otherwise Allah will cause it to fall upon them.” I asked, “Is this their punishment?” She said, “It is rather a mercy, means of blessings and admonishment for the believers, and a punishment, display of anger and torment for the unbelievers.” (Hakim in al-Mustadrak)

I think what the brother is trying to say that it happens more in those countries which experience earthquakes.

So since no major earthquake has occured in UK, therefore there is NO zina occuring there at all. Most of the zaanis seems to be in Pakistan and Turkey which have a lot of earthquakes and floods.

From what I understand, the hadith mentioning that earthquakes are a result of zina (and similar narrations) are specifically talking about the Muslims (for example, there are hadith saying that near the end of time, zina will increase, etc). They aren't talking about the kuffar (from what I understand) as the kuffar have always been perpetrators of zina and so forth, these are direct signs for the Muslims as they are the ones who hold the truth (Islam). Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong

Anyone who thinks that zina only happens in countries that are non muslims are wearing blinkers. Just because it is not in your face like in the west doesnt mean it is not happening. People are people, and men will seek out sex whether they are married or not, it is in their nature. We are biologically programmed to do so, that is not to say that we should give into this urge.

I think I didn't explain myself very well. Basically, the non Muslims have always had problems with fornication in their society (look at the Greeks, Romans, etc). Now, as Muslims, we are prohibited from such acts and historically speaking, fornication was not widepread in our communities (due to the power of the Sharia). The Messenger told us (the Muslims) that there will be an increase in fornication as the end of the world draws near. What I've always believed that to mean is, that there will be an increase in fornication amongst Muslims as the end of the world draws near, since fornication has (historically) been prevalent in non Muslim societies.

Hence, the hadith mentioning that as a result of this increase of fornication, the people will be punished (through means such as natural disasters) is also referring specifically to Muslim lands (such as Pakistan). For example, I'm sure there is something about the increase of homosexuality leading to an increase in earthquakes. There is a noted increase of homosexuality in Pakistan, and also a noted increase of natural disasters. The West has homosexuality too, but there are no such disasters... why? Because as non Muslims, they are expected to fall into the traps of Satan, but the Muslims have been forewarned.

Anyway, that's always how I understood the hadith regarding these issues, and I welcome anyone to correct me if I'm misinterpreting anything. I should note for anyone who does not know me, that I am not a scholar and only expressing an opinion (of mine) and as such, should not be forwarded to anyone unless explicitly mentioning this is the (uneducated) opinion of an ignornamus. Hence, you also (sister iftannous) should not take my understanding of this too seriously either, as that is all it is (my understanding)

Can you please name the Hadith that you are talking about? With the numbers of muslims living in the UK & France, why has this not happened there?
Is there many more muslims in this forum that would share your views on homosexuality & zina being the cause of earthquakes? What about Chile, a non muslim country experiencing earthquakes frequenty?

Might it not be that an earthquake/flood/disaster could hit in any case, even though the people of the city are innocent? Sometimes bad things happen to good people too.

Isn't it also said in the Qur'an, that people who profess belief will be tested until they say, "When will the help of Allah come?"

(Surah al Baqarah ayat 214)

214. Or do ye think that ye shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried: "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!

It's too easy to say: this and that happened because they did zina etc.
