Default Myspace Loses Millions Of Users
Not surprised, it's so slow and everyone finds it easier to use facebook

MySpace loses millions of users in a few weeks

Page last updated at 15:39 GMT, Friday, 25 March 2011

By Adrian Pearce
Newsbeat reporter Latest statistics suggest attempts to kick new life into MySpace may be failing.
Tech industry analysts comScore say figures show MySpace lost more than 10 million unique users worldwide between January and February.
There were almost 63 million users of MySpace in February 2011, down from more than 73 million.
Year on year the site has lost almost 50 million users, down from close to 110 million in February 2010.
The loss of users comes despite a series of changes to the site to make it more about music.
It was the social network site that helped launch the careers of artists like Arctic Monkeys, Kate Nash and Lily Allen.
But so far this year MySpace has already announced plans to cut half its workforce.
Falling numbers Around 500 staff are going worldwide.
Five years ago it was booming and for many was the first place to visit to talk to friends and listen to music.
But the arrival of sites likes Facebook has changed the face of social networking.
In the UK, 2.3 million people used the site in February 2011.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp bought the company for £330 million back in 2005.
If they were to sell today, they might get as little as £50 million for it.
MySpace boss Mike Jones has been putting a brave face on the falling numbers.
He said the site is no longer a social network and is instead an "entertainment destination".
But with competition from YouTube, streaming services and increased file-sharing it faces tough times.

I'm surprised people even still use it.

I really don't use facebook that much anymore anyway. I may check it every few days, but hardly post much these days. It's interesting to think about how/when facebook will also enter into decline.

I'm not so sure Facebook will go into as sharp a decline but it may lose interest. I don't post on FB too often these days to be honest, Twitter on the other hand is better in my opinion for my needs (keeping up with the news) becuse it's real time, therefore faster.

Myspace was too open to everyone learning too much about you when it started. For my kids myspace was their first social network. The both graduated to facebook as facebook grew. I might check my myspace now once every 6 months. I check facebook daily.

I am not surprised with the news either. I found more friends in Facebook even long lost friends from grade/high school. All my existing friends at Myspace, I recruited them to FB

Facebook is more user-friendly for a wider range of ages.

Whereas Myspace is so.... emo. It's so teenager-ish. If someone asked me if I had a myspace page, I'd be a bit like... do I look like that kind of person?

I just started using Myspace again a little bit. I think the constant change has done them in and of course it being sold in 05.

I haven't used myspace in years. The last time I checked, all the messages I had were from men saying they love me loads but they need money to come and visit me. Would I be willing to send them just $500?

Myspace used to be good but then they started changing all the time, the site started running slow and crashing constantly, looking at it today it's unrecognizable from the Myspace that I actually liked, I deleted my account months ago, hell I can't even go on the site anymore without my whole browser crashing, they had a great thing going for a while I don't know why the changed everything so drastically.

I haven't been to my MySpace page in years!. I had completely forgotten about it.. I think I might go there and just delete my account today.
I started it to keep in touch with my kids and my oldest granddaughter, but it never felt like "home" to me.. and with a slow dial-up connection, it was impossible to do anything on it.
I haven't heard any of my friends or family mention it for a long time.

It doesn't surprise me to see the loss of users, all the changes were not very user friendly and the spam was getting out of hand, at least, it was the last time I used it.

It's sad to see MySpace go down, but I have seen many instances where something that is good in the beginning, gets bigger and starts to show a little profit.. then, greed takes over, and when changes are made too soon and too often to maximize profits, they tend to backfire at the end.

I've been with FB since the early days, and some of the changes, especially during the last six-eight months have not been good moves on their part, so I expect many users will cut down on it.. I know I have...

Facebook is a lot cleaner, so there is no lag. MySpace has loads of lag.

I've been thinking about FB and the changes they've made so far. It's not satisfying a lot of users I myself used to go to FB a lot and was addicted! Nowadays, I hardly log on...... Hoping FB learns from the errors that caused the downfall of other social networking sites just like Myspace

They are going to learn the hard way, I'm afraid..

They make their money by selling all the user's information to apps developers and that is a big no-no in mine and most of my friends view.

Invasion of privacy is rampant there, as was on MS when all the changes started, and many people are not even aware of that yet... but it won't be long until the mass exodus begins, just like in MS..

agree. the crazy and awful page designs that they allowed their users to post
and the annoying auto start of music is main thing that killed it.

some people really shouldn't be allowed to customize a profile page.
they go too far with it sometimes. seen those animated backgrounds
of glittery images? geez.
