Ok, this has probably been addressed at some point but if so I can't find it. Anyway, i googled how to transfer my old ipod files onto my newer laptop and it says to open my hidden files. But, I can't find my hidden files, because they're hidden. Where are they? They hid them really good.
I really hate being computer illiterate. I just want my darn music that I actually paid for onto my computer. Is that so much to ask &%*$# Apple? |

Don't know any Appleese but in Winders you can use the view tab in folder options under control panel and tell it to show 'em to you. The XP I normally use is so old and junky now it sometimes just randomly makes regular old files hidden for no particular reason so I keep it on show hidden files. Winders also likes to stuff music files and such under 'My Documents' which is more of a Winders device than a simple single file location.

Sadly, my file folder is *&%$# hidden, too. I have no folder option. I knew I shouldnt have been looking at all that porn. I've probably picked up a WIndows STD. |

and they wonder why people "pirate" music.
All my music is kept (and transferred to as soon as I get it) an external HD. I sync some music to my laptop, but for the most part i just sync my MP3 (no IPod for me) to what is on my external HD (and the associated playlists stored there). It is on a network computer, usually, and can be accessed anywhere on our home network. It comes in really handy when wanting to watch a movie somewhere else in the house (like in the living room, where my xbox picks it up). |

Ok are you trying to move your music from one computer to the next or from the ipod on to a new machine? To get music from your ipod on to a new machine all you need to do is sync. If you are trying to transfer music on one machine to the next then there are alot more steps. Also ipods don't run iTunes. Windows runs iTunes so I'm confused as to what we are referring to here.

I suspect that you haven't deauthorized your old computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420 iTunes music is copy protected so that you can only load it on a limited number of devices. If you get a new computer you have to deauthorize the old one so that you can download your music to your new computer. |

Sigh. I had a response all typed out and clicked out of it. nline, thanks for the info. Since my previous laptop went up in smoke I bet the deauthorization thing is an issue. I will read up on that. I didn't realize itunes wasn't on my ipod, shows what little I know. Mac, thanks for your info, too. I will figure this out how to do this. Come hell or high water.

Ok now I understand what you are really trying to do. Yes you will need to deauthorize your dead computer but only if you have reached a 5 computer/device limit. http://ipod.about.com/od/introductio...-Computers.htm. If you haven't reached that 5 device limit then this isn't an issue. If that is the case then you have a sync issue. In which case I think you have been searching on the wrong terms as I can't figure out what hidden directories would have to do with syncing. When you try to connect your iPod to your Windows machine and sync what happens? Describe is PRECISE detail WORD for WORD any error messages displayed on Windows and Any displayed on the iPod screen(if it has one). Also what model of iPod is this?
