iTunes Question
I just got a new laptop. How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old laptop to my new one?
are you on a network and does your old laptop still work?
also, are they the same O.S. (operating system)
as in are they both windows xp or different ? |
The old one still works. I don't think I'm on a network. The old one has XP and the new one Windows 7.
do you have multiple machines (pc's) in the house, or a wireless router that your isp sent you?
I just have the two laptops. I have a wireless router that I bought.
ok, are both machines setup on the wireless router?
First make sure both machines are members of the same Workgroup which by default is named Workgroup.
http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/.../workgroup.png On the Windows 7 machine go into Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Network and Sharing Center then click on Change advanced sharing settings. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...andsharing.png http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...5/advanced.png You will want to verify the following settings under Advanced Sharing Settings for the Home or Work and Public profile. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...rksettings.png If you want any user to have access the public shares turn off password protection. This is located in Advanced Sharing Settings toward the bottom of the list. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/.../turnoffpw.png Now if you go into Network in Windows 7 you should see your XP machine and the Windows 7 as well which in this case is Mysticgeek-PC. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...5/Explorer.png Over on your XP machine open up My Network Places to find the Windows 7 (mysticgeek-pc) shared folder. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...workPlaces.png Double click on the Share folder to find a list of shared folders in the Public folder on Windows 7. If you have password protection enabled you will need to type in the username and password of the user account on the Windows 7 machine first. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...05/folders.png on your xp machine right click on your itunes folder and select sharing and security, under the sharing tab check the box that says "share this folder on the network" and click apply then click "ok". you should see s hand appear under the folder like its holding it up..that means its shared on your network |
ok...do you have large capacity thumb drives?
or would you mind buying a cross-over cable? |
unfortunately ..im not a good teacher, im more of a do-er and i dont have a windoes 7 machine to do a step by step walk through/ trouble shoot with you
but this may help a little more http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3179/...d-a-usb-drive/ |
Thanks Cod. I found a method on YouTube. May take awhile though.
