Default iTunes Question
I just got a new laptop. How do I transfer my iTunes library from my old laptop to my new one?

The old one still works. I don't think I'm on a network. The old one has XP and the new one Windows 7.

do you have multiple machines (pc's) in the house, or a wireless router that your isp sent you?

First make sure both machines are members of the same Workgroup which by default is named Workgroup.

On the Windows 7 machine go into Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Network and Sharing Center then click on Change advanced sharing settings.

You will want to verify the following settings under Advanced Sharing Settings for the Home or Work and Public profile.

If you want any user to have access the public shares turn off password protection. This is located in Advanced Sharing Settings toward the bottom of the list.

Now if you go into Network in Windows 7 you should see your XP machine and the Windows 7 as well which in this case is Mysticgeek-PC.

Over on your XP machine open up My Network Places to find the Windows 7 (mysticgeek-pc) shared folder.

Double click on the Share folder to find a list of shared folders in the Public folder on Windows 7. If you have password protection enabled you will need to type in the username and password of the user account on the Windows 7 machine first.

on your xp machine right click on your itunes folder and select sharing and security, under the sharing tab check the box that says "share this folder on the network" and click apply then click "ok".
you should see s hand appear under the folder like its holding it up..that means its shared on your network

Easiest way is to physically connect both of them with a WIRE in the wireless Router.. That way both should see each other and will have the fatest connection possible..

Open the shared Connection in your Network Settings and both Laptops should see each other..

I think that's what Cod was trying to show me? My old laptop has issues and I don't have the skillz to troubleshoot them. I ended up doing it by disc, which took a couple of hours but it was probably good to create a back up for the library anyway. It's done now, so everything is lovely.
