A good article about the need for open alternatives to the likes of Facebook:

Like some of the comments, I was surprised they didn't give a mention to http://www.joindiaspora.com/

Interesting article though.

Speaking of alternatives to MS Office, do you guys see any Corel WordPerfect anywhere ?

It used to be big here for a while but seemed to die down about 5 years ago.. Government used it a lot..

It's not open source but it is an alternative to MS Office..

Yeah I noticed that too. Diaspora looks like it could be the solution, and definitely needs more press.

OpenOffice.org is the best open source solution I think. I've never used Corel's version, but I've never been a fan of Corel software...

The only Corel software I now use is Paintshop Pro, yet that like a lot of their stuff is from companies they've purchased of course. I think the earliest version I remember using was about 5 or 6 when it was still Jasc. I like it because it's stayed very similar to how it used to be whilst expanding greatly its features of course.

Yes I have it loaded on a Ubuntu Drive on my PC..

But on my business Laptop I must use MS Office Pro that cost me an arm and leg by requirement. We need Access and it is only available in pro now..
