I have Windows XP...four year old Dell laptop. I can rip CDs but I can't find an option to rip DVDs when I open WMP.

Lets try this to see if I can figure out what your laptop can do

Go to>>Start>>> right click on My Computer>> >Click on Properties>>>Click on Hardware>>>Click on Device Manager

Tell me what you see under DVD/CDRom drives

not having a ton of luck but looks like it can burn a dvd

You need some dvd ripping software, and depending on what file type you rip the dvd to, you may have to convert the file afterwards to work on Youtube - those are .mpg .avi & .wmv

Also be aware that the max file length for an upload is 1024mb or 10 minutes.
