Of course I will learn like I said I'm not claiming to be a master at what I'm doing but throughout this entire thread it seems people are trying to say I don't know what I'm doing... Everyone is trying to school me on what I should be doing or saying I'm doing something wrong...

My business is my business I'm trying to share the experience not ask advice on anything but how much I should charge I know what I'm doing I promise... If I don't I will soon learn this by finding that I'm not getting any customers... Seeing as how I just fixed this clients computer and she called me right away looking to speed up her computer and the only thing I can think of seeing as how I'm not going to search for such an outdated processor I would add ram, she only has 128mb so I'm adding 512... Sounds like a plan...

My father teaches A+, CCNA, and many more certifications across the country and he even says this would be the best thing to do...

If he's wrong then please go to town trying to school him on his knowledge...

Since you are so eager in the home business I suggest you put it all on a website and then you might get alot of customers. Blogger is a free hosted website. As your business expands you can also make use of Google Adwords. You can also make some money by writing computer related articles on Google Adsense.

Thanks for the advice I'll take a look into it... I won't be using any free hosted sites or templates xD...

Not trying to brag I swear don't take it like me trying to say something else to make me look better or whatever but I have been building websites for a long time so I'll be working on putting one together sooner or later... I'll be putting ads and whatnot up... I have a job opp coming up a work from home position where you can create a profile and log in when I customer needs support they will choose the tech they what to use and if you're chosen you will get a call just like a help desk just from home

I'm not charging 20 bucks to install ram... I'm charging 20 dollars for my labor it will cost different for different people her ram is Old as piss it's for a dell demension 4300... 512mb is thie highest this stick gets... 29.99 for the stick + 20 for labor...

Dude... If I don't take the business that's offered the customer will easily find someone else to take care of their needs... This customer is an elderly lady... I'm not going to talk her into buying a new computer just so I don't have to add SD Ram...

And you're right you must have no fucking clue what you're talking about it amazes me that you could even assume that 512mb would be the max per module because it's not the current generation

maybe you should have clarified that the biggest stick of ram the system currently has is 512 mb. since you did not state the current generation (sdRam, ddr, ddr2, ddr3, et cetera), i went with the thought that the generation of memory you were looking for could only reach a maximum of 512 mb per module/stick. as evident in the second of your quotes i used here, such is not the case.

my comment about cheap ram was that you should not wish to use crappy ram that no one knows/does not have a warranty or something similar: use companies like kingston (generally, a few bucks more than other respected manufacturers; also my preference for memory), ocz, corsair, et cetera, as this will allow you to use their warranties, and not have to cough up that $20 you made on the upgrade and buy new memory to replace the bad module.

my original response was not intended to insult your intelligence and knowledge, but merely a written record of my though process. before i posted it, i was deciding whether or not to leave it in there, or take out the trail of thoughts, but decided to leave it in there. that was a failure on my part. i should have just stated that the price seems reasonable and walked away. now i find myself one of the apparent adversaries to your pricing scheme when in fact i quite agreed with it, and have to spend even more time explaining to you why i am not against you.

your decision to update us or not is entirely up to you, as it always has been and always will be. i come here every so often to start or comment in random posts.

however, i should state two things:

- you are getting worked up on the internet, which the reason is slightly confusing.
- it seems written sarcasm evades your detection. might want to work on that (or you may have been too angry about the 'everyone is calling me an idiot' thing... quite understandable for you to skip that style of writing).

finally, just for your personal knowledge bank: i do know what i am talking about. i once thought of opening a tech shop, but over here, it is quite crowded, with corporate and individual businesses all clamoring for a piece of the pie. that, plus my interest in how games are made, lead me to the programming/software development side of things, and even now, i am not developing games, but doing a project for a financial services firm. i found that more cores are extremely helpful in the line of work, whereas before, thought only a single core would suffice for my needs.

i have tried to keep language out of this response, and hopefully have succeeded to this point. if a 'fuck' or 'shit' have escaped... well, all well, they exist as words. trust me, this response is quite limited in scope, and i hope you take it with constructive criticism, instead of 'everyone hates me'.

...at least you hav picked up some skills at such an young age and thats good for you. As you go along and mix around I bet you will learn alot more besides the technical skills. i am not entirely sold on the bragging part though. revenant seems like he's started applying his knowledge (backed by the certs, as he claims) to make some cash. if no one is hiring, start your own business: look for local resources/help to get it off the ground. get into the services industry's IT networks -- mucho dinero waiting there

heck yeah, definitely go for a memory upgrade... maybe 2x512, if supported... that brings back memories:

pent4 2.4c; int-graphics, 120gb maxtor sata, ... 1 freaking 2 damn 8 mb of ram... my budget took a hit at that location;.. an intel d865gbf (dumbass site sent me this, instead of the ordered d875 board i bought, but they refunded the difference)

final build was a 3.0e HT p4, 2 gb ram, a 7600 gs from BFG (agp), 120 (same drive) and a 160 from western digital. the intel motherboard crapped out on me after like 2 years.. replaced by an asus p4c800e deluxe-- sold it after the processor crapped out on me about 3 years after the original motherboard replacement.

i have a laptop (compaq evo n610c) upgraded by me, including a screen hack to increase my wireless card's range. i am waiting to get another one, and do to it what i did with a parts machine for it (below)

my latest build (by me) is a pentM @ 1.4ghz (really @ 1.86 to see hard drives, so oc'd) stuffed into a silverstone ml01 case (i got a geforce4 ti4600 to go with, but the case is too small, so i am looking to get a thermaltake lanbox with the handle, since i am a member of the local computer club at my college), and a few other goodies.

my desktop now, ... she is a bit outdated: amd athlon x2 4200+ (2.2GHz), 4gb (2gb ocz, 2gb corsair -- bought for $10 from craigslist... a damn good steal), pny 9400gt (need to get a 9600+ card, from bfg), the 160 western digital sata from my original setup (yeah, its that old), plus a few other drives, a dvd burner, et cetera, in a mac-clone case... (all free, except the 2gb corsair xms pro ram, from my buddy)

the only ram i have ever owned is ddr. stuff's expensive nowadays.

you cannot claim to understand this field if you succumb to continuing to support an outdated platform. even the three generations before the current generation of memory currently available to consumers topped 512 mib on a stick.

I say just charge what the market will bear or what you think is reasonable. Building your client base is important so giving customers a good deal and making them think that you care is good business practice.
