So a few days ago my husband came home with a new Gateway M-series laptop/notebook for me. Its so far ok...not the best i have seen but ok for what i'll use it for.
Anyway, i'm just working out some of the bugs in the system that you come across when you get a new PC, such as unwanted software, updating the vista and trying out any of the free trial software like the Norton360. BUT, today, before it had ever been online, i noticed its backspace and the del/sysrq buttons are not as responsive as they should be..in fact the entire keyboard seems to work as if it were an old keyboard as the responsiveness is that of a key board you would really have to press the keys in order for it to get the message that that is the letter you actualy want...the worse of them is by far the backup and del button....so i thought what the hey, i'll check out the gateway sight and see what they say....and guess what? still as shitty as i remmeber for service...lmao...i used to work for them ...lmao anyway...so got no where with them...so i thought ok, search the techsites i know about and as i have read and as i knew from troubleshooting these systems from way back when, they have issues. Seems i'm not the only one out they with unresponsive keys... some techs got it right for some of the users to being a virus but then others, such as myself, haven't got a solution to it...BUT, i'm thinking its the shitty Norton as Norton has gone right down the tubes since 2002 and its not been good since...so i'm thinking good old Avast will end up on here real soon and Norton will find itself removed as usualu from yet another system i own. ![]() BUT...saying that...i wanted to know if anyone else here has had similar issues and what they did to fix it? ...oh and i have been in OTz withdrawal since i wne off line a few days ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Totally unrelated to your problem, but I got a friend with a Gateway that had a bad disk drive and a failing HD. When he contacted tech support they said "put it in a box and send it to us." Pretty shitty IMO, but maybe because when I had mine fixed they overnighted me a box, fixed it in like two days, and overnighted it back.
But about your problem, I've never actually heard of any problems like that. I'll keep an eye out for any info though. |

congrats is he trying to butter you up? ![]() You said something about getting rid of Norton. Depending on your specs, Norton + Vista might be enough to make your computer sluggish. ![]() ![]() |

Norton is just a popular brand name. I been using Trend Micro for the last 5 years ![]() ![]() I've always had good luck with AVG. I think Avast is what my school offers to me for free though, I've just never had a reason to try it. did you check the keyboard settings? ![]() |

I'm not too familar with Vista myself, but i've done all the updates and still no luck...I'll take norton off tonight and install the avast. Avast is something i've used for years and never had issues...funny enough it replaced norton for me way back when as well. |
