First of all, I went to college to be a draftsman for residential and commercial buildings. I got a job about a year ago, but its getting to be a pain in my ass due to the circumstances in my office. Now, I know a good deal about computers, both software and hardware issues. I've been fixing/building peoples' computers for the last three years or so.
Anyway, I'm going to get to the point. I have been talking with one of my friends from school that works at another architectural firm about possibly getting a job there. The thing is, they are looking for an IT guy as well as a draftsman, which is exactly what I'm looking to do. My question is this: If I am very familiar with Windows XP troubleshooting/maintenance, will I be able to succeed in a semi-IT position if they are running Server 2003? I have never really used Server 2003 before, and I am wondering if I would be biting off more than I can chew by possibly accepting a job if it is offered to me.

Do you know networking. This is the main thing that you will be having issues with in a setting like that. Most people that concider themselves to be pretty good at computers are really lacking in that area. It is my week point because in a general home setting you normaly dont have more than a coupple computers so the networks stay pretty simple.

As far as server 2003 is concerned in general its pretty similar to xp. IF you are good with diagnosing and fixing hardware and software problems the os they use(so long as its windows based) is not going to be a big issue. My main concern is the networking.
