I have 3 keys that kept popping off. No big deal, I just snap them back on, and go on. TOday, my 4 yr old pulled the rubber piece off. The little piece under the key that i guess presses the sensor. I am not sure. Its a little black piece of rubber. I have 2 of them and the other is probably on the floor, but I have not found it yet.
I know I am repeating myself, I am just trying to keep from killing my kid. I can still use the keys by touching the sensor, but I know I have to get this fixed. Any ideas on how. I have a warranty at Best Buy. The one that covers everything. But I am not sure if this is covered or not. My lap top also get hot, Like 135 degrees by the vent. I have a digital thermometer. Is that too hot? Can I clean it out somehow? |

I service and repair laptops but I can't answer your questions without knowing the EXACT make and model number of the unit. EVERY laptop is different. SO exact model numbers are a must to help you.
Most keyboards are under $50. You can't really fix the keys you just replace the whole unit. If the bubble pad has been removed the keyboard is probably ruined. They usually aren't seperate pads for each key but a whole sheet underneath all the keys. If one has been removed then they tore it off. The seal is broken and the keyboard will fail the first time any moisture gets near it. As for the heat some laptops run hot. But they should have a vent for the fans. You can use canned air and blast dirt out of that area. Many also have a removable cover for the cpu and fan so that you can blow out that area. See your owners manual for instructions. Again exact brand name and model number is critical to answer this. Warranty is unlikely to cover this. This is end user damage. Some policies do cover all of that. However Best Buy doesn't fix laptops. If you take the laptop to them they will ship your laptop off. That can take weeks and you risk loosing data as sometimes they don't repair the unit they just replace it. And if that happens you lose all of your data. |

But I definitely agree with you, it will take a few weeks to a few months. I would go with a local tech that can just order the part and replace it. And yes, the make and model are vital. |

Not really true... They don't just replace it without asking. It takes more than a broken keyboard/fan/or even mobo for them to replace the whole computer. Even then, what they actually do is let you pick out a new one from the store. And they will work with the Agents to get your information back to you. (I used to work at Geek Squad) |
