Default Computer fans
I have a couple of tiny 12V computer fans that I want to rig up as BBQ pit stokers. How do I connect them to a common household outlet?

One of them is a small Dell, about 1.75" in diameter. It doesn't have any specs written on it. The other is about 3" and the specs read 12V .14A.

There's gotta be a way to wire a converter to one of these and make it work without frying it.

Please - help the ignorant - help me!

There isn't. That is a 12 volt Direct current device. Your wall plug is 115 volt alternating current. You would have to build a full wave rectifier and then a transformer to drop the voltage down from 115 volts to 12. That's what the power supply in a computer does for you. You'd have to build the same thing in order to use the fans. Whole lot cheaper just to buy some fans designed for AC/115 current.

I ask because there is already a product on the market called http://rocksbarbque.com/"]The Stoker that utilizes a computer fan. And I own this thing. But I want one I can simply plug in without having to drag out the whole Stoker unit. And since I ended up with three wee 'puter fans from an old computer I dismantled, I figured I could make my own version.

So, would any of you electrical brainiacs (not the eclectical maniacs who've responded thus far... ) please help. I know it can be done.
