Yes.. There should be...

Right click on your bottom bar area and click on properties, on the taskbar tab, at the bottom you'll see a button called "Customize" Click on it and you'll see all kinds of toolbar names, etc... and to the right oif them they'll have "arrow downs" where you can choose "always hide" When your done be sure to click ok AND apply.

I had teh very same problem with some spyware I can't get rid of, so that's exactly what I did. And the "speech bubble" that it caused is not popping up anymore.
