Firefox browser for web 2.0 age
Last Updated: Tuesday, 24 October 2006, 06:32 GMT 07:32 UK

A new version of the Firefox browser for the web 2.0 age is to make its debut on 24 October.

Built in to the updated software is anti-phishing technology, to prevent fraud, as well as built-in spell checking and a search engine manager.

I've been using it the last two days. I like the subtle improvements, still works great, better than IE in almost all areas. Formating issues on a few pages are still there, pages that work in IE but not in Firefox. The change I am having a hard time adjusting to is the tab browsing now has separate close buttons on each tab, and a pull down list where the close button used to be. So all day every time I go to close a window I hit the pull down first, will have to adjust.

I really dig the spell checker!

Right on both counts! The spell checker is great, and it will be tough getting used to clicking the close box on each tab, though I do think ultimately it's an improvement (as opposed to right-clicking the tab and messing with the context menu). Just a hard habit to break.

And try the "undo close tab" button. Ain't that clever!

Yes the "undo" is nifty. It is a hard habit, but a new habit will come in time. I often use CTRL-W to close the tab anyway.

Can you center-click to close the tabs? I really hate to give that up.
