There was a really odd energy while watching Roddick/Tomic. It felt like the crowd wanted to get into it, but couldn't. I would have actually changed to a different match if I could have. It almost seemed like Tomic was trying to make Roddick look especially good.

A bit surprised Djokovic was placed on Ashe over DelPo-Harrison. Pretty good day to be on Armstrong, though!

Nypbscao 08-31-2012 03:41 AM

One of the writers over at Tennis.com just called Fernando Verdasco "budget Rafa" http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...ilies/wink.png
So true.

tadacia 08-31-2012 03:59 PM

Robson takes the first set over Li Na. This tournament could be a big one for the Brit!

Peabelilt 08-31-2012 04:33 PM

It's theoretically possible for Robson to win the title beating grand slam champs in every round after the first. Talk about a beastly draw.

Clijsters - Li - Stosur - Azarenka - Kvitova/Sharapova - Williams/Ivanovic

I'm more and more impressed with Laura. Perhaps 4m8 is right http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/smile.png

I corrected your sentence, it had some typos.

Louise Engzell isn't an umpire I have a lot of faith in. A couple of dubious calls there. Seems to have fired up Laura more.

jagxj12 08-31-2012 05:31 PM

Totally random: I really dislike how the name Laura is pronounced in English...

sandracuk 08-31-2012 05:42 PM

Wow, what a breakthrough tournament for Laura Robson! I knew that Li was overhyped coming into this tournament, but I wouldn't have expected this result.

It's better than watching an American try to pronounce 'Lara'

I new someone named that and she kept calling herself 'Lada'

pXss8cyx 08-31-2012 08:08 PM

Maria Sharapova is promoting sugar? Really?

Umph, umph, umph.

Nypbscao 08-31-2012 08:20 PM

Speaking of young guns I'm watching Harrison play Delpo and he really needs to get a better forehand. It has a lot of topspin but virtually no pop to speak of.

exiceJetLip 08-31-2012 08:26 PM

Harrison took a set while I was away watching Pova/Burdette. I think Delpo has his groove back though.

What did she say/write?

noingenah 08-31-2012 08:36 PM

Wow, just noticed this storyline. Sharpova's 3rd round opponent was Mallory Burdette, a senior at Stanford. Career earnings: 41k, 3rd round loser's check: 64k! That should make for a fun year back at school http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/smile.png
She won a couple of ITF's this summer too. Has she been flagged as a top prospect?

That Laura will win slams.

If she is still in school then she must be an amateur and won't win anything. I saw few fragments of the match and didn't see any above average ability in Burdette. There are many more promising young players...
