What did they say to them?

My guess is these are photos for security passes - you know 'don't smile' and 'look directly at the camers' - who has a good driver's license or health card or passport photo.

Still very entertaining to see some of these athletes so stripped down compared to how they usually look but for the life of me I don't understand why they use these photos for the Olympics site - did same thing for Vancouver - couldn't they find nice publicity shots for the website - better advertising.

I have a good passport photo. And it is not one of those taken in advance. It was one snap at the passport office. My driver's license, which of course is shown much more often, is just terrible.

Come to think of it. That should be a contest - make up the best blurb/nickname combination for each picture.

That's a fun gallery. A lot of clear misses, and some who manage to make it work anyway. Sharapova srtuck me as one of those where it clearly is not a flattering pic, yet she still manages to look good despite it.
