Default Obama Says the Right Thing
I could not have said this better, even though I have said exactly this sentiment. Of course, his words mean nothing, given his actions and contradictory statements, but he gets a half-point for at least saying the right thing once in a while.

The world must remember that it was not simply international institutions -- not just treaties and declarations -- that brought stability to a post-World War II world. Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/11/wo...rexy.text.html

I agree with your assessment......But, of course, your assessment means nothing.

Thank you, jviehe, for at least trying to see that perhaps not everything the POTUS says or does is wrong or bad.

The rest of the right wing goons? Well, to be expected.

It appears Newt Gingrich also gave the speech a thumbs up.

Why should I break my arm to pat his back for words that do not match his actions?

Would it break your arm? Are you that fragile?

Nevermind our toppling of fledgling democracies to install and support brutal dictators (including Saddam) because they opposed the Soviets. Nevermind our economic hitmen to indebt the worlds countries to us so we hold power over them. It was all done because of our spiritual enlightenment.

I prefer the wisdom of another Nobel Peace winner:

A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching
spiritual death.

No, but why take that chance?

Because we're stronger as a nation if we can get along. Sometimes that means giving someone a pat on the back, even if you don't like them.

If his policies matched his words I would.

Do we know that they don't yet?

Hell, even I was hopeful for GW Bush at this point in his term.

He's sending those troops to Afghanistan. Good enough for me, its his economic policies are the ones that should be worried about.

When I was in high school, a gentleman on my wrestling team earned everlasting ignominy by not being able to control his mouth. He told the entire team how, in a drunken, horny fervor the night before, unable to secure 'companionship' he had masturbated and managed to hit himself in the eye with the... ahem... product.

When it was announced that Barack Obama was receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, I dismissed it as leftist masturbation. No offense to anyone but the Nobel Committee when I say this, but that analogy seems all the more apt at this point.
